The game world is good and game itself is good but you can finish the game and have 100% in 4 hours or in 3 hours if you rush.
I think that the price is much too high for 4 hours of gameplay.
There are many better and longer games for less you can buy on GOG.
... too less game for that price (19.99€). The three main chapters need approx three, maybe four hours to play through (first star less). The steering mechanism is ok, but sometimes, especially in hectic situations "not predictable". To play one part again and again is only frustrating. The puzzles are really to easy (second star less).
But: the atmosphere, the characters, the story, graphics and sounds are really great! I also like the combination of climbing and attacking.
Please: add one more chapter for free!
This game has an awesome atmosphere, you are immediately immersed by the excellent graphics and sound design. The story is a cliché, you've seen it a thousand times before, but fits in with the theme. The real downside is that overall mood is ruined by the unresponsive controls, and having good controls is one of the most important features in a platformer.
It gets frustrating very fast when you are stuck in a screen trying to time your movements exactly and getting killed again because the animation didn't respond fast enough. Adding insult to injury every time you die you have to wait for the exact same screen to load. It should be immediate...
I got this game for free but I can't recommend it.
Yes, it is short... However I had a great time playing it. In my case it was refreshing to have something with such dark atmosphere and on some occasions (no spoilers) it really made me thinking. It's a interesting ride and I would recommend it as kind of different platformer from dark world. Albeit it is really no survival, a nice platformer with interesting story - absolutely.
Sure I could pick some cons, like some story plots were... rough. Also while I understand the reasons I did not like the way a backstory is being told. Found diary pages? Come on... The game did slightly lose its atmopshere near the end for me as there was more action, but it was still very nice ride till the end. Unfortunately despite being... different and not absolutely cliché, the story... was predictable through last act and imho the "big finale" was weakly... performed, yet very strong in its depth. (even though I anticipated it before).
The actual gameplay? I would call it something between first (the 80s) Prince of Persia and the modern(ish) This War of Mine. First giving core gameplay, later giving atmosphere and visual. Both great titles and so even Deadlight is very nice. Yet... kind of short and sometimes you feel the great potencial being wasted.
Albeit I will not replay it straight away, I think in some time I will gladly come back and play the story of Randall Wayne again.
This is one of the most gorgeous platformers ever made. If you're getting this for anything, it's the graphics.
Too many shortcomings though.
It's only 3-4 hours, and 1.5 of those hours are in one of the worst sewer levels ever made. The game takes a break from being chased by hordes of zombies and helicopters to spending ONE-THIRD of the game time letting a crazy hermit run you through a boring obstacle course in the sewers going *plink plink* with a slingshot. It's like being dumped into an hour long Zelda tutorial in the middle of the game.
The story is terrible. Skip every single cutscene and diary entry.
So much of the gameplay hinges on taking running jumps to grab ledges, yet it's very hard to tell what's a ledge you can grab and what's just background. Feels like half the jumps are leaps of faith, quickload if you guess wrong.
When the game's good, it's running through hordes of zombies and dodging helicopter strafing runs. When it's bad, it's falling through trick ledges and spending ONE-THIRD OF THE GAME in a sewer obstacle course. I would only pick it up on a $5 sale just to see how good the graphics are.
