A Clunky RTS Disguised as cRPG
Summary: it looks much better than it is. It is practically Majesty: the Fantasy Kingdom Sim except everything good in that game is messed up. Even if you like old games, you will not like this one. The UI is so bad that it outright tells the player to consult the manual in order to learn how to simply move your troops/heroes. Bad game design all over and shallow like a puddle. Also has a copy-protection requiring you to keep the manual pdf open when you create a new game, a total illusion breaker that could have been cracked by the devs very easily. The screenshots lie about the game. It is actually full 2D, with the isometric 2.5D visuals being non-interractable background gfx. The whole game is a table and every screen is one of its entries. Every screen has four slots to build structures on except the main castle one that has 0. Most of the time is spent painstakingly going through the neighbouring screens and building stuff like farms and houses there one by one and upgrading them. It is a ton of work and the full game map can probably fit thousands buildings and their upgrades. This game is a lot of work. Once you have built enough stuff, you can go to the screens with enemy lairs, use the awkward side triangle things, drag the troop selector bars to the max right and wait for the troops to slay the lair monsters and finish the genocided lair by selecting "demolish" from the usual build side menu. Repeat until you give up. There is no light at the end of this tunnel. It starts obscurely and there is never any payback. This game clearly was a pseudo-3d tech demo. The game content is a lackluster. The 2.5. part of the gfx often makes seeing the buildings impossible with hills and stuff blocking the view, making you click at the four horizontally lined up building slots blindly. The game has DnD references such as the text commentary about damage and casted spells, though those details do not matter. It is a numbers game, much unlike DnD where heroes matter.
