I think by other game standards it's an acquired taste. I love the game personally. Hard to find since other game since have same name. I put effort into finding it before feeling stupid for not looking harder on gog. lol. It's a game of patience, planning and developing. Winning is about momentum. Admittedly I have only just barely bought it an hour ago and haven't played in decades so I'm going entirely on faded memories of play.
Being from 1993, the graphics are obviously dated, but well done for the time. This is a very well thought-out game. If you like Manor Lords, give this a try.

Subjective Review
I thought I'd give this game a chance to beat me so didn't choose to start with any magic users. Bad move. You need magic in order to beat some of the baddies. Made it close to the final confrontation, ran into, I think they were steel golems, watched my entire army get routed. This is one of those games where the gameplay is the story. In other words, each person will make their own as the building/battles play out. It's fun! I was pleasantly surprised. I would advise you play a short game at the start, one you don't intend to continue, just to familiarize yourself with all the mechanics. Get into a battle early so you can learn how to move your "troops" about. If you follow my advice, I can almost guarantee you'll enjoy this. Almost, because, well, games are subjective. I never found it tedious. There's also something about building armies that you have no input over when they go to battle. Something I personally like. Gives me more of a feeling of being a commander and either celebrating a victory (that you had no part in) or burying the dead (that was all your fault).
This game just doesn't do justice as a fantasy kingdom sim. Majesty 2 despite whatever shorcomings IT had was far better. This, you basically just farm make sure your minions don't wander off and leave the squares they occupied deteriorate and a few other things. Not a lot of strategy and tactics required.
Its mostly marcro managing. You can't even do it with automatic. YOu gotta do it yourself to do good.
