Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!
Now, over twenty years later, Day of the Tentacle is back in a remastered edition that features all new hand-drawn, high resolution artwork, with remastered audio, music and sound effects (which the original 90s marketing blurb described as ‘zany!’)
Players are able to switch back and forth between classic and remastered modes, and mix and match audio, graphics and user interface to their heart's desire. We’ve also included a concept art browser, and recorded a commentary track with the game’s original creators Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Larry Ahern, Peter Chan, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian.
Day of the Tentacle was Tim Schafer’s first game as co-project lead, and a much beloved cult classic! This special edition has been lovingly restored and remade with the care and attention that can only come from involving the game's original creators.

This is one flawed remaster. The dialogue-skipping feature is bugged, even causing events to trigger with quite a delay, the "remastered" graphics just look odd, Maniac Mansion has no save slots, there are countless more bugs other people are experiencing. Especially the delays are off-putting. They should've playtested this botchjob properly before unleashing it on us. It's just no fun with all the irregularities. The only reason why i even give this 3 stars is for the undeniable quality of the original game. If the bugs get fixed, i'll revise my rating to a 4. If they lower the price to be just a bit above a regular good old game, i might even give a 5 and a "RECOMMENDED BY MRMARIODAVE" seal of approval.
Cannot run this one on MacOS, it just wants to delete the installed game, because it's corrupted. The same goes with Full Throttle Remastered... i'm a sad panda now...
I played this game years ago and enjoyed it when it was first released. Something is different now or the rose-tinted glasses have been removed. I now consider this game to be boring, repetitive and the voice acting to be really annoying. But then I probably have matured in much the same way.
I did not enjoy the game. On the positive side is a good quality, bug free remake. The negative side for me:
- ludirous and thin story
- tom and jerry style nonsense
- puzzels follow no logic, just absurd connections and combinations
- zero percent chance to solve puzzles (with random trials)
- walk through mandatory
In summary: it looks nice it plays badly
