Darkest Dungeon®

I'll start by saying that this game is great vanilla, but I play it modded, and I think it's worth having a review that reflects that. This is a game about making the best of a bad situation - and the vanilla game is meant to be kind of stressful and hard. You're constantly making decisions that will make or break your heroes. But, this is also one of the most moddable/modded games out there, and there's lots of amazing mods for it - including some that decrease difficulty in such a way that it's functionally a very different game. When modded in this way, it becomes a game about people in terrible situations supporting and inspiring each other, and helping one another cope with stress. So if you want a challenge, this game will give you that. What isn't widely advertised is that you can mod it to be a lovely settlement-building adventuring game where your heroes like and care for each other and you look after their mental health. There's something here for everyone.

One of the better premium indie rogue-like dungeon crawlers came out in the past decade. The animation, art style is great, the UI is polished and the encounters are hard until you learn how to overcome specific enemies. Some are resistant or use devestating attacks. Optional mini-bosses and 3 tiered main bosses specific for each region are waiting your party. You have to manage your heroes, and town with limited starting resources. But in the end you can upgrade everything and have a steady income of gold and trinkets. Sometimes it's unforgiving with big rng swings. Bad dice rolls can take out even the well equiped party. But the difficulty is one of the key parts of this game. You fail, you learn, prepare, fail again, until you succeed. Never forget when I discovered how to defeat a certain boss on my own. No wiki, just trial and error and the victory felt great. Need to have patience for this game. It's well wort the time.

The game is hard, depressive and unfair. The first 2/3 of the game is fun, you have some control over the situation. This changes in the end. You are losing control, your groups sometimes works, sometimes not. I havent enjoyed the end, it made me angry, frustrated. Fights were random, I didnt feel the progress I made. Because the end of the game, I have no intention to play this game again.

I've plated like 20 hours untill I came to a Weald boss 2/3 and the game keeps crashing at that point. IF I reload my game, it crashes again. Seems a problem that exicted for years I've read on the forum. The devs keep responding with 'send us your save game, maybe we can fix it', but thats not how bugfixes should work. Fuck my 20 hour progress. Such a shame, otheriwse I'd give it 4 stars.

On my Mac Mini game works with magic mouse terrible. You have to click several times to make a reaction it is realy annoying if it is no fixed only two stars.
