Can you stem the tide of eldritch horrors erupting across your family’s ancestral estate?
I have played through most of the game and killed most of the bosses with only 2 deaths. The game is really good and I would finish it and probably replay on Stygian - the highest difficulty but there are way too many crashes.
The worst crash comes when hovering over items in the trinket inventory. It corrupts the save and you have to load from backup. If you don't exit the game after every dungeon, then you can lose HOURS of progress.
The other crashes don't bother me so much, since the save does not get corrupted. However, stop and reload, stop and reload, stop and reload is a showstopper for me.
I tried contacting Red Hook about it, but no response.
Luck is too much factor in the game. Max level Heroes missing for rounds letting the enemy just kill them, even on easy difficulty. This is not challenge this is just frustration.
Picture this: I chose to embark my heroes on a mission, they were level 6, my top of the top, Hellion, Vestal, Crusader(Reynauld) and Plague Doctor. I chose the catacombs cause my Hellion is cracked plus bonus damage on Crusader. What could go wrong? Mission was tagged as long lvl 5 search 90% of rooms, and long(two camps), which means 40 minutes of wandering with no space in EQ for your loot while every group of enemies becomes much harder to defeat. I was catiously optimistic at start despite that, My team was strongest I've ever had, and I wanted Ancestral Pen for Reynauld(reward for this mission). Second fight was random Bloodsuckers and first attack done by Mosquito crits my Hellion and instantly gives them Crimson Curse. Yayyyyy..... Going next it's a bit of a chore, but It's going steady, no big problems. Plague doctor gets -40 sanity from reading a book which to my surprise was barely an inconvinience during entire run(Refracted), but besides that its no problem. Problems arrive at the end. First I've said that those missions can be 40 minutes long? Turns out that my Hellion went from getting Crimson Curse to nearly dying from it in a single run and I got no blood to give her. I was literally distressed every time she spoke something because I thought she was going to die. Turns out my fear was completely baseless, as next encounter we got 4 spiders, who dodging 2 rounds worth of my dps nuked my Vestal in one sequence of 3 crits. WHAT THE HELL??? She didnt even got to have her sanity tested, she just died, there goes my best healer in a roster. With four rooms left to explore I've decided I'll try to finish this run. I've defeated one encounter, but then got 3 times "party hungry" which nearly killed everyone so I had to retreat. This whole expedition was for nothing.....
If you want to get this game be wary that such accidents are frequent in this game. It has it moments and I still like it, but really consider this when you want to buy it.
A waste of time and money, an accurate description of the game both as a purchase and its play style. A sadistic punishment game disguised as a pleasant yet challenging experience. You'll regret every decision in game as the R.N.G. and catch 22 choices force you to create new profiles over and over in the pointless pursuit of progress. Heroes you level up will die faster than the noobs you can hire, and negative stats will swiftly outnumber positive ones. The stress mechanic will swiftly snowball and the cures will swiftly drain your resources. Trinkets that your supposed to use on your heroes are instead sold to barely fund the next delve, leaving you with nothing. This purchase isn't my greatest regret, but it is definitely in my top 20.
