This is a game that had potential to tell a stpry that lived up to the marketing that preceeded it. Unfortunately, the game says more about the corporate greed of the people who made decisions surrounding the marketing and release thereof. Mentioning the issues such as bugs, cut content and developers having to work long hours is like beating a dead horse.
In my opinion there is very little financial incentive for the company to address any cut content. "But they said they will release a DLC" I hear you say. What if the 'DLC' is the content that was intended to be in the game when it was released? Just a thought. The most that we can hope for is bug fixes. By the company's own admission, there are a lot.
I am not going to ask for my money back, I'm curious to see what happens,. I will; however, consider CDPR's actions when considering their next title.
The good:
- characters - lifelike main and side characters, who I could genuinely like (or dislike)
- story - while not as compelling as in some other titles (Witcher series or Mass Effect), it was still a great experience and everyone, with even a slight inclination towards SF or cyberpunk, should experience it, one caveat: some of the optional quests should really be considered as part of the main story, the game looses so much if they are skipped
- endings - strong stuff
- side quests - while the map is an overwhelming soup of quest markers, and much of those are rather standard and uninspired (but still mostly enjoyable) quests, there are still many that are just insanely good
- shooting - while hand to hand combat is crap, melee weapons (katanas, baseball bats and the like) are just ok (too simplistic), I really, really enjoyed shooting in this game: there is good selection of different guns that feel really different, when you use it
- hacking - I invested heavily into hacking, and while it can get a little tedious in mid game, with some additional upgrades and high quality hacks, it becomes really fun (and incredibly overpowered)
Now the bad:
It's a crime (possibly literally) that this game was released before it was finished. I played on launch and there were tons of glitches and some side quest were broken. Much of this could be fixes by now, but this should have never been released in this state. There is overall feeling unfinished and rushed product here. Hand to hand combat and driving are only some examples. The city looks great at first glance, but once you stop for a moment and look closer, the illusion breaks and you are left with a cardboard decoration. AI is practically nonexistent, probably a basic placeholder for the real thing that wasn't finished on time. Worse than even all that are broken promises: choices are nearly meaningless, life paths do not matter, crowds on streets are idiotic, next-get world is actually quite archaic in design.
+Nice story linear line
+Great Storyline NPC animations
+Nice graphics
- Unfinished game - riddled with features that are clearly either partialy implemented or not implemented
- tons of bugs even after 1.2 patch
- Ridiculous crafting/weapons upgrade system - forget that you will have up to date iconic weapons - keeping one up to date will cost more than creating all legendary iteams combined !!!! And when it is underleveled it will do no damage ...
- Broken promises - no vehicle customization, rather linear storyline, almost no decision impact on storyline, no impact of character background on story line, NPC's with no AI and much more ...
- at least half of the cars are not playable from First person ( bad view, you dont see the road ), also no mirrors...
A lot of people wanted this to be THE game. It is not that. If you're buying this game wanting it to be the second coming of christ, lower your expectations. This is a great game, but it does not live up to the hype at all. This game is fun, and it has a good plot. This is not a great RPG imo because it lacks a lot of choices you can make in some other RPG games. For example in Fallout, or Planescape Torment, or etc. you can kill whoever you want, and the story shifts to accomodate that. This game really only lets you take one path, letting you make some choices in between. There are a lot of bugs, and a lot of them are immersion breaking, but the main story and gameplay is so good that it makes up for it. The world building is impeccable. The world of cp2077 feels real. The divide in wealth, the cyber-implants, the police incompetence. Night City feels like it could be a real place in the future.
First I did not play this when it first released. I saw/read all the complaints and very public outcry so I stayed away. But after a year of updates and bug fixes I figured it was time to experience Night City. And? I had a great time! There are still small bugs but they are more annoyances, I never ran into anything game breaking and my game never crashed. I didn't have any of the major bugs (T-poses, people walking through walls, police popping up behind you) that I saw when it released. The story is great, but what do you expect from the creators of The Witcher. Keanu Reeves as Jonny is really really cool and adds a unique aspect to the usual Shooter/RPG type game. There is a large skill tree to really compliment your play style. Plenty of factions to interact and do jobs for and so much to see and explore. I would definitely recommend this game now. Oh a negative for me is that your choices don't really affect that much in the game until you get to the end
