Good game, but a lot of bugs

If this game didn't have this many bugs, I would call this my game of the year. Looking at pure gameplay and story, I would say this game is absolutely great and I love it. However for a game that has been in development for atleast four years I feel like there should be no reason for this game to have this many bugs. When I finally finished downloading 58 GB after 2 days (My country has bad internet), I finally started up the game only to be dissappointed by the fact that the game crashed immediately after clicking play. So I decided to "Check game integrity" and it ended up downloading 18 GB all over again.... Really? Luckily after that my game started playing for the first time. Now after 22 hours of gameplay I have not once encountered any game crashes whatsoever. So I guess I am lucky. I get a relatively low framerate playing this game (Around 35 - 50 fps). Not unplayable but a little dissappointing still. It's nothing like Watch Dogs which had huge frame drops that made me want to punch something. The cars AI is ridiculous, the police system is also pretty screwed and my audio sometimes goes out of sync in some cutscenes. Car handling also leaves a lot to be desired. With all that said I am still enjoying the world, the atmosphere and the story. I am only giving it 3 stars because I feel like CDPR could have easily avoided most of these issues. Hopefully they will fix the bugs as quickly as possible.

Shocking and depressingly mediocre

Despite my better knowledge I caved in and made a preorder a couple of days prior to release. Contrary to many others I do not have problems with game breaking bugs, or a large amount of graphical glitches. I am however shocked to the point of being utterly depressed at how shallow and shockingly poor the game is for an open world game. I can honestly not see how CDPR will be able to fix stuff like the complete lack of AI or add the content that was originally promised and that now seem to be MIA with patches. Yeah patches may end up fixing the glitches, graphical errors, CTD's and so on- but the game itself is such a big letdown it is baffling. Like it was made by amateurs coming into game design fresh with no previous experience of making games and not even having the common sense to look around and be inspired by other open world games. This game has very little actual player choice, awful gameplay in terms of car controls and combat, skill trees that are hugely uninteresting and mainly offer passive % bumps. It has a good looking but utterly dead city which is not worth exploring. Game lacks even the most basic AI, which both breaks immersion out of quests and also makes combat really poor. The map is littered with hundreds of markers from the get go, people calling you left and right every 5 minutes to do jobs for them without you even knowing who they are or why they are calling you. It is all very mediocre. I did NOT expect this after such a long dev cycle, delays and previous history of interesting and meaningful gameplay offered in the past 3 Witcher games. What little good there is in the game, does not make it worth playing. Play better games instead of this one because you will be wasting your time. RDR2, Witcher 3 or Deus Ex Human Revolution if you want a similar setting which handles the themes and character customization better. Uninstalled the game and asked for a refund which is still pending.

Playing a dude...

I'm playing a dude, that is being played by another dude, while that dude thinks he's playing that dude, and for all I know that dude may be being played by another dude that none of us dudes know about. I think this is one of those games where you won't really know how you feel about it until it is completely patched, all DLC is added, and you have more than 20 hours in. Previous to that - well, it just sort of depends on your preferences. The only bugs I've seen are floating items (cans, cigarettes, etc.), NPCs gliding instead of walking, items unable to be picked up, items exploding when you pick things up, and the usual NPC car issues you see in practically all open world games. Nothing gamebreaking or otherwise bad enough to make me want to quit. With that said, the music selection sort of sucks and only works on radios and in cars (not on motorcycles), some NPCs speech loop is absurdly short, driving sucks, the timing on introducing side missions/gigs or whatever sucks (especially timed ones), the UI is simply inconsistent with some elements outright broken, combat can be really wonky especially if a hidden netrunner is attacking you, and I'm probably forgetting a few other sucky things. Sure, I've had a few fun moments and in general it is passable, but it isn't anything close to what I was expecting. I'll continue playing for now to see how things shake out, but the recent industry articles talking about how open world games are no longer viable are starting to really ring true - devs can't deliver on these promises and frankly while it sounds good, I'd prefer a much smaller game with a better story and gameplay elements. This just feels like Deus Ex Extended now with dildos.

Good Game, Missing Promised Features

TLDR: Game is good, cdpr did not deliver on expectations they set. Get it if you can ignore the bugs but if you want the best experience wait 3-4 months. I had a lot of fun with this game. If you are able to overlook the bugs that are plagueing it right now it's honestly like a 8/10 game. That score is based on what the game is and not what it could have been. On the other side though... I expected more from CDPR and I feel bad for saying that but it's the truth. There's qualities to this game that make it seem like a masterpiece but then there's parts where it falls short. Things like the wanted system where the police just spawn out of thin air is one of the bigger shocks to me because I would have never thought CPDR would implement such a horrid mechanic. There's also just lots of missing things that were promised by the studio. Now I get it, COVID made development much more harsh but that doesn't mean the flaws should be overlooked. Seriously I really love this game, I have 60 hours in it already. But I just can't feel a sense of depression when I think of all the stuff CDPR failed to deliver. I did not expect something that would shake the whole gaming industry, I only expected CDPR level of quality like the Witcher 3 and in some aspects they have dissapointed. I also did not expect it to be better than Witcher 3 but I know many did.

It's nice, but with a big "BUT"...

I'm already 7 hours into the game now, but I just completed 2/3 of the first main mission. Because I was battling with various bugs for most of the time. First of all, the CTD problem. The game is extremely unstable. Sometimes I can smoothly play the game for one or two hours without problems, other times the game just crash every 5 minutes. Last night, the game crashed more than five times within the long BD session where I need to check a hotel room for security details and mission clues. Because it's not allowed to save game during BD session, I had to repeat the same scene more than five times. It drove me crazy! And the language setting is a nightmare, too. I am a native Chinese speaker from Taiwan. When I installed the game I chose the English version because there is no "Traditional Chinese" version to choose. However, when I started the game and went into the settings menu, I found that I can set the language of subtitles and interface to Trad. Chinese, so I did it. And then I played for a while and then exited the game normally. When I started the game later, I found that the language settings are resumed to English. This is a real disaster with the CTD problem mentioned above. After some time in game, I decided to change some key-bind settings, only to find that many useful keys cannot be remmaped by players! I cannot set the key-bindings of openning inventory, character sheet, journal or map. I cannot remap the key-binding of "interacting with objects". What's more surprising is that, I cannot use the middle mouse button along with the 4th and 5th mouse buttons on my Logitech MX Master simply because I have Logitech Options (the mouse and keyboard setting app of Logitech) installed! And the only effective solution is to uninstall Logitech Options! What kind of game would require a player to uninstall a hardware's setting app to use the hardware properly in game?! If this is only an EA version, all these problems can be tolerated. But it is not.
