A flawed adventure

A middling adventure in Night City. Story: V isn't a compelling character. The game glosses over a huge amount of what would have been a great opportunity to develop V as a character. The story picks up in the last half of the game but really struggles to find its footing in the beginning. You'll have a few compelling side-quests and main story quests that have great interaction with NPCs, but the game tosses them away as soon as their portion is done. World: Despite the glowing neon lights of Night City, it is an incredibly dull and lifeless city. NPCs have simple routines of walking up and down streets with little to no interaction with you. Cops spawn into place when you commit crimes, even if you're in the middle of the desert. There is surprisingly little to do. Locked doors everywhere, random events are often the exact same thing in a different location - and feel like exp grind fests rather than anything that contributes to the world at large. Gameplay: It feels more like an FPS with minor RPG elements than an RPG that happens to be an FPS. That being said, gunplay isn't bad. Once you pick up weapons you enjoy it can be quite entertaining. Main quests and side quests often feel like the same thing, different location. There's a lack of variety in how you complete quests and dialog always seems to end up with the same result. Graphics: It looks alright. I wasn't impressed. The game looks good, don't get me wrong. But it feels absolutely lifeless. Character animations are good when they work properly. Character customization is robust, if mostly useless. You rarely see yourself outside of inventory menus and activating mirrors. Sound: The sound design in the game is great. It's one area I really enjoyed. The combat music kicks in just at the right time and aren't overbearing. Voice actors and actresses did a fantastic job and I was quite happy with it.

Bugs Aside The Game is Great

After playing this game,a few things stood out to me. First of all, this game is made by a company that is known for pushing out buggy games at launch, so the state of this game now is no surprise. With that being stated, this company also is known for fixing issues with their games to the point of near perfection in my opinion. Knowing all this, I will only be reviewing the game and not be considering the bugs as part of this process. POSATIVE: -It delivers on the RPG aspect of that like the "The Witcher 3", and "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" to name a couple of games. -Combat is very satisfying with the gun play being more of an attractive choice over melee, at least in the first parts of the game. -Exploring the map is fun, with a lot dense areas to get lost in, but in a good way. There is so many vertical areas that can be explored that the map does not need to be as big, to feel massive. -The grinding does not feel too bad or repetitive, however it can be if you do not experience the questing. What I mean by this, is there are a lot of things you can do in the game, but if you only concentrate on collecting drop off's or taking care of assult's, it will be repetitive. With a game of this style, I find that it is really up to you on how repetitive you make the game to be. -Questing is very fresh and satisfying as almost eveyone feels unique and exciting. The quests always seem to keep me immersed and entertained -The game is visually pleasing and it is deffinetly the one game that I would recomend if you decide to upgrade your graphics card. That being said, there are many options that you can adjust to increase or decrease your graphics. NEGATIVE: -Driving is ok but with a keybored and mouse it is a bit of a pain, as it seems almost too snappy when turning. -When viewing the map, you do not get the option to turn the camera, and when seeing all the icons it is overwhelming, and I feel this would help. -Pedestrian AI is dumb when shoot-outs or combats are going on

Why even have QA?

Even though the story is gripping and the world design is jaw dropping, I just cannot recommend this game in it's current state. The game is so buggy on a fundamental level that I honestly feel like they never bothered to test the game before shipping it out. There are so many game breaking bugs (currently I am stuck because Mitch's car during the "I'll Fly Away" quest is bolted to the ground. That is on top of the numerous visual and gameplay bugs plaguing the game. A lot of items cannot be picked up from the ground, shards would be unreachable, cars appearing and disappearing, getting thrown hundreds of meters away while climbing, random clipping into things and becoming stuck, having your gun become invisible after switching, the list goes on and on. And even if you can overlook the bugs, there are basic game design issues at play. The police and enemy AI is more A than I. Prompts to pick up items are finicky at best and will be hidden by dialogue cues if a charater is close. Tech sniper rifles makes the fights way too easy. Gun types, mods and comsummables could have use much more variety and polish. I can go on for much longer, but I think you all get the point now. There is a good game burried somewhere underneath this technical mess. The story is great, the characters are interesting, and the setting is one of my favorite I've ever played, but it is really hard to recommend the game in its current state. There is no doubt that this game was rushed out of the door in order to make investors happy and we are witnessing the consequences of it. I am sure the devs are working hard ini order to fix all these issues, but until they are fixed, people should probably avoid this title.

Buggy, laggy mess

I didn't buy into the hype of the game, but I was interested in experiencing it, based on gameplay trailers. However, what I got was a buggy mess. I tried playing it for a few hours, I had so many crashes and bugs (falling through the map, car getting stuck in the road, graphical glitches and so on). It was impossible to enjoy the game. Not only that, the game runs at 20-25fps at 1080p, regardless of graphical settings. My PC meets the 1440p/Ultra requirements in CDPR's official system requirement list. I have requested for a refund and I haven't heard anything from GOG in more than a week. This is just unacceptable. If there was a star rating lower than 1, I would give it.

Cyberflunk

TL;DR, a notable step forward in terms of visuals, but gameplay and ideas are drenched in the Witcher 3's era and not in a good way. Clunky movement and floaty gunplay all wrapped up in a decent but sometimes contrived story. Not the gateway drug for nextgen it was supposed to be, so many poor choices in so many places and all of it crashes far too often. So sad to see CDPR use their good faith to manipulate people like they have. Buy on a sale, it's not worth more than $30-40.00 in it's current state.
