what a shame, this could have been one of the greatest games ever released. instead we get a pile of rubbish. I was thinking of buying this in a few months after patching but I can see the game engine needs to be redone which will never happen. Glad I tried this on a friends PC which is better than mine first!
Firstly they lied about what game would be like when released. Just look at the latest *in game* videos - NOTHING like the final release, with almost EVERYTHING scrapped or reduced in function.
the AI is terrible or just not functional. Police system does not work at all, no gang wars just a few scripted events, pretty much no car shooting going on except for . . . SCRIPTS. I could go on but I'd be writing a whole page.
Don't even let me start on the glitches ! !
Even after a month of patches the game is still buggy as hell. The bugs is what is trullly innovative about it, I've never exerienced anything like them in any other game. And even without all the bugs, the game is only decent at best, nothing remotly close to the Witcher series.
The main story is good but too short and seemingly rushed. Some of the side quests are truly great, but the absolute majority of the side content is generic and forgettable and doing it feels like a chore very quickly. And this is my biggest problem with this game. I could forget and forgive all the bugs and glitches, nonexisting AI for NPCs, horrendous driving, awful UI, broken economy and crafting if the game was fiiled with big or small quests that are unique in some way, precent the player with a choise and have consequences lasting through the whole game, like was the case with many side quests in Witcher 3, even just simple monster contracts. The only remotly intresting thing about most of the jobs (side quests) in this game is something that you can read about them, not actually see or do during the quest. They are mostly summed up to: go to a place x, kill this person/save this person/steal this thing/install a virus into this computer, get money, rinse and repeat.
Another problem in regards to the quests is that even in good ones the roleplaying is rather limited. I felt like I had more freedom to shape Geralt, a character with an established canon into what I wanted him to be than I had with my character in Syberpunk. During main story and major side missions, often you are forsed to choose dialgue options that are contrary to the character you are roleplaying and ultimately, the game decides what kind of person your protagonist is, not you.
This game is fantastic, and fantastically disappointing at the same time. Like nearly every open world game today, the trajectory is the same: pour dozens of hours into the game with a single primary mission, with a few variations depending on your path (I chose NOMAD) or decisions you make in the middle of the game, and spend a lot of time grinding on less-than-spectacular side missions. It's easier to do in this game than some, because the world is incredibly beautful. The details are immense--from the consumable items you can get to the body types and facial differences--everything pulls you right in. The devs obviously drew on numerous cities to inform Night City, clearly LA being the number one, and seeing the ins and outs of how the world was built is probably the largest PLUS of this game.
But the world's scripts, the way the world *lives* is a huge disappointment. This isn't just because the game is buggy (rated on polish alone, I'd give the game 1/5), but it's more about the every moment in between the missions. The missions have top notch acting. Most of the story is compelling and unique--like reading a truly cyberpunk novel--but the random encounters, the deviation from normal behavior, and the reactions of the world fall flat. No motorcycle chases by NPCs crashing in front of you. No one really giving a damn if you run into them on the sidewalk. The police appearing out of nowhere and disappearing even with the highest wanted levels. There just isn't really anything going on in this game. Honestly I would have critized the game just as much if there had been a bunch of monotonous mini-games included, or microtransactions, etc etc, but still. In this day and age, add variation to a world that thrives on its diversity would go a long way.
Other crits: lack of mission types (only two, really), weird reactions to major stories (Saul died and no one cares, really?), the mirror--what?, time not really mattering, lack of weapon types, and terrible radio.
Certainly there were issues at launch. Though, I experienced little, if any, issues at all. Certainly not game-breaking ones.
Are there still bugs? Sure. But they aren't serious and do not in any way detract from the immersive experience that is Cyberpunk 2077.
This game allows for multiple play styles: from a nethacker hiding in the shadows, to full out assault with guns or melee weapons. The Mono-wire is especially powerful for cleaning up enemies.
I can't recommend this game enough. Have played it through at least 5 times, and am currently on my first playthrough since the latest patch.
Highly recommended.
