Was expecting more.....

Now i don't usually do reviews but i have been waiting for this game since the original announcement 8+ years ago so make sure you read before judging. Also *Spoilers ahead* I am not going to focus on any game bugs or performance issues on other platforms, so i will strictly focus on the game. As the main story unfolds the game becomes more and more interesting but it lacks the RPG element and the "importance of choice" aspect. You start of by selecting you life path which only affects certain dialogue choices and nothing more and as you progress you start realizing that everything evolves around V (main character) and Johny Silverhand. You get so invested in the beggining with all the interesting characters you meet in the game but their story arc drops off so suddenly that it leaves you with a weird feeling. There is no follow up story with any of the characters you meet, sure there are a couple of side quests but that's all. After that all of them disappear and even if you try to call them you get the same fixed dialogue options all the time. There is no substance to them and it feels like you are doing a 3rd grade quest for some miserable soul just to get money for upgrades. As far as the role playing aspect...... it's just not there. It's more of a adventure/shooter type of game rather than an RPG. There are certain places that you visit during the main quest that are really interesting with a lot of activities but as soon as you are done with the main quest if you try to revisit them there is absolutely nothing to do, no activities, just a populated space with random NPCs. There are more than one ending and it actually depends on whether you have done certain side quests or not but the outcome is just weird since *SPOILER* in every ending i came across until now you die one way or another, or you just don't get a proper closure as the main character. "Night city never sleeps"...... well it definitely is in hibernation so far. It's just sad.

Functionally underbaked

After long years of development, pushing through countless delays and setbacks, its full team working tirelessly to bring their vision to fruition, Cyberpunk 2077 turned out to be basically okay. The map's big. The graphics aren't bad. The writing's at or above par for the genre. The speak/shoot/sneak gameplay loop is functional, if repetitive. It's an entirely playable game with some high points, but looking at the history of its development, one thing's blatantly clear: CDPR shot for the moon with this project, failed to break atmosphere, and ended up landing in an ocean of other shooter-sandboxes in the vein of Far Cry and Watch_Dogs. It does not break new ground. It does not live up to its own expectations. It does not revolutionize the genre, bring you to tears with its writing, immerse you in a fully-realized world, or anything of the sort. It is a bog-standard ARPG-shooter sandbox with loot, perks, quests, and levelling in a wide, shallow map. The production values are high, but the ambition to innovate just isn't there; CDPR thought they could catch The Witcher's lightning-in-a-bottle a second time and came home with a glass of tepid, if drinkable rainwater to show for it. The game's not strictly bad, I should clarify; if you're in need of a way to kill 20 hours over the course of a week, it might be worth a look at a discount or post-patches (the game has some curious design decisions and numerous, occasionally progress-stopping bugs at time of writing), maybe full-price if you've already burned through or are uninterested in every other sandbox game that came out this year. That said, don't feel bad about sleeping on it or skipping it entirely, whether you bought into the hype or not.

Total Lack of Motive

It seems like the game is supposed to drop you in media res in Night City. This would have worked really well had V's motives for "becoming a legend" ever been explored in the prologue. They weren't though, and that leads to there being very little for the player to identify with or relate to. If you're looking for a game that's more than just driving to a location to shoot bad guys, this game's not for you.

might be good?

The game is pretty fun when it works. I can't play anymore as the cutscene I need to watch to progress crashes my GPU drivers every single time regardless of trying to spam C to skip it all or lowering graphics to minimum. I'll come back and up the rating once the game is playable I guess.
