Interesting Story, but DRM for DLCs

This version has improved since launch and I still have crashes but it's less frequent. Previously, it would crash when I open the inventory, now it's just random spots. It runs smoother than launch and feels like a nice linear first-person RPG, some glitchy controls feel odd like driving, but the shooting feels decent. The story is very interesting, world is a little fun to explore and mess around, but small. I can't see much replayability other than customizing the character and vehicles. This version feels more complete and how it should have been at launch. The amount of bugs and crashes discouraged me off from playing this game any further after a really cool reveal in the story. I just watch playthrough videos to get the story, since it feels like the game doesn't have much replay value and the bugs are frustrating. Also the Galaxy version seems to require an internet connection and GOG Galaxy if you want to use any DLC, which feels like DRM. Even after the Phantom Liberty launch, this bug is still around. I'm not sure if ProjektRed has given up on making game DRM-free or they just don't care about this bug. They should at least update the site and remove the "DRM free" part. I feel a little betrayed by this company, I could have just gotten it cheaper on other platforms if I didn't mind DRM. I recommend this game for people that wants a Deus Ex-like experience. If the game gets more fixes it's definitely worth it on sale. Might as well get it whatever platform that's cheapest, since it seems like it requires an internet connection for DLCs (even the free one that's just skins).

better now but still not great

I just decided to give the game another try after a few years and 2.0 seemed to have changed a lot of things for the better like making clothing cosmetic and tying armor to the cyber enhancement system. Though about 3 hours in I had encountered enough "quit points" to where I just have no interest in continuing the game. Apparently they added a gang retaliation mechanic to the game where gangs will come after you upon completing certain quests. Problem is that they have overtuned the police system to the point where if a gang shoots at you you get a gta wanted level and then cops also try to kill you, people complained about the lack of police in the game and now there are police on every block, who shoot at you if you breathe in their direction. In the 3 hours I played probably 1 quarter of that was spent running and hiding from police because of this overtuned system. As for the story part of the game, not a fan of that either, the main plot pretty much immediately sets in stone that you're dying and will die in a few months or whatever which is completely antithetical to an open world sandbox game. The amount of cognitive disonance required to engage in any of the side activities or do any exploring while ignoring the main plot which is you're dying and need to do stuff so maybe you wont die is more than I can manage. Anyone that says otherwise about this glaring issue is suffering from severe brain rot caused by years of bethesda writing. I honestly think the game would have been better if they just didn't bother making the massive open world filled with pointless side activities and just had smaller/more linear maps instead. If they wanted to keep the open world then an entire plot rewrite would be in order. Oh well maybe they'll learn from this games shortcomings and make the next game better. Probably not.

Sadly lacking in many areas

Ok I'm on Windows 7 but it won't play at 1440 even though the default is set to that. To play at 1080 that runs I have to change the desktop resolution at it won't stretch to monitor resolutio and I have a tiny 1080 window in a 1449 desktop. The menu music is really annoying after your 50th restart, same for the red loading logos and text how to skip it it also killed windows twice. Having got it going at 1080 finally, you talk to NPCs and their lips don't even move, this is mass effect Andromeda levels of QA. The first part of the game is on rails. The training isn't great took ages to work out these is a secret spot beghind a guard that enables an action. I can't get the action key on the mouse, so awkward keyboard reaching F. Going to try Xbox controller next as it's clearly cons ole centric. The people look like they are made of plastic. Gunnery seems totally arbitrary in accuracy. Nice lighting. Doesn't look anything like the slick promo videos even at 1080p Ultra.

Obvious Development Problems

Very obvious that something went awry in the development. It's missing basic features like a walk toggle or the ability to rebind all of the keys. The AI is either laughably simplistic or missing entirely (none of the NPC enemies drive vehicles outside of scripted sequences and the basic traffic AI is completely broken). Many of the unlockable perks clearly weren't playtested as they are entirely worthless/broken (knife throwing, for example). All in all this feels like a GTA knockoff PS2 game with next gen graphics. I've also experienced immersion breaking glitches in nearly every single narrative sequence. For example, NPCs doing the stock "cower in fear" animation in the middle of a story scene, or the wrong textures loading so an NPC hands me a gun that's clipping through their head and hand instead of the chip they're supposed to be handing over. I would love to know how many of the staff from The Witcher 3 carried over to this game. It has all of the flaws and none of the strengths. Many of the systems seem ported directly over (the fast travel for example). The city looks impressive from afar but the puddle shallow AI completely breaks the immersion. Death Stranding, a game about loneliness and solitude stemming from lack of human connection feels more full of life than this game about a cyberpunk metropolis. All of the story sequences I've played (through the first act) are on rails and have "press F to proceed with story" dialogue options. It might as well be a cutscene at that point because at least then we could maybe get some interesting camera direction out of it. Worst of all, this game from the creators of potentially the best open world narrative RPG ever made cannot in any way be considered an RPG. This is at minimum a year or two away from being a decent game. I a "Destiny: but it's actually a real game now" type situation to happen with this.
