This game has so many flaws and bugs that I don't even know where to start. But the major disappointment for me was that while it looks pretty, the world itself is lifeless. Outdated AI of crowds, enemies, cops, cars traffic etc., etc. After beating the game there is nothing more to do there. Beat it and forget it. Such a shame for the game that was in development for 8 years. Wouldn't recommend!
I have always been a huge supported of CD Projekt Red since the Witcher series. I bought the games multiple times across multiple platforms so that I can support the one developer that I felt still had respect for gamers. I even *gasp* preordered Cyberpunk 2077 the very moment it became available for preorders through GOG to make sure every cent I spent went to them.
However, all that has changed.
At it's base level, the game has nothing new or revolutionary going for it. It is barely passable in terms of gameplay and other games have done it better. The story is interesting and probably is the only thing going for it.
There's barely any interaction with the world outside of the main curated storyline and the world doesn't reacts to your actions/status.
There's so much missing from the game that it really feels too disappointing. To drive the final nail into the coffin, it's obvious from Adam Badowski's recent reply clearly shows that the company believes that they have delivered a great game that's up to their own expectations on PC so we will probably never get the game that we were promised.
List of missing features include:
- AMAZING AI that directs enemies during combat/patrol but also citizens and npcs' daily life
- wanted system and corrupt police
-Immersive police involvement changing with the area where you committed the crime
- more interesting gameplay, for example: trauma team that plays a key role, ads that target the player point to the merchant that sells that product, merch could be pre-viewed before purchase
- NPC unique daily routine and AI
- to add on the previous point, lifepaths leading to non-linear quest design
- Variety of braindances instead of it being just few cutscenes
- Challenging weather system that would pose a threat to your survival
- Very very few options for ONS and/or deep romances
- Finishing the game without finishing the main quest
The story and atmosphere are great. Great design in visuals. Shooting gameplay is nice but the looting system where you collect every gun is outdated. Not shooting out of cars and no unscripted chases.
The hype was unnecessary and led to bigger outrage. Due to all promises of reaching GTA/RDR level.
Endings are all bittersweet and thus all feel like you achived nothing and you can choose them at the game ending. almost ME3 style.
If the bugs wont stop you from enjoying the game its a fine product. But you can't ignore the voices about underderlivering and lies due to them being every where. Valhala has more busy open world then this. Oddysey has mercenary system. this doent even have cops chacing you. Neither gangs renown. This should have been mission to mission game like Deus Ex with little to no open world. While ubisoft games have weaker story their gameplay delivers a stale formula but still better with minor upgraded almost every 2 years.
There are worst games than this but there are also better games, and atleast the weak ones are not such a disappointment.
Developers did a great job but the marketing and managment manage to destroy good will of consumers. I do have a fools hope that they will somehow fix this in 2 years.
Forget the bugs. The game is not fun to play. Gunplay is abysmal. The worst maybe Ive ever played. And Im using a mouse and keyboard. Combat results in running up to an enemy and blasting him in the face like youre playing a PS1 game. AI across the board; Terrible. From the infinite lifeless zombie npc's that clutter the map with zero awareness, to the enemy combat ai which also lacks any proper awareness. Im shocked, really lol. Theres no fixing this game. Night City is an elaborate cardboard cut out. There are no stores you can enter and peruse, no Shenmue style sense of living world. NONE. Besides that, stealth is as barebones and unfun as it could possibly be. HACKING- which, this Cyberpunk lol, is also stripped of any luster or ambience or FUN or ANYTHING!! WTH happened here. Colossal f***-up CDPR. And those fooling you into thinking its any good.. well.. they must suffer from denial. The hype crushed their sensiblity. I dont know. Cant believe its this bad really. Oh, and theres hardly any RPG mechanichs to speak of. peace out.
The Game delivers a really stunning atmosphere and a lot of style. Other than that most of the stuff you can do feels utterly rushed and unfinished. Game mechanics work on a basic level but literally everything feels clunky and the interface is a mess. Everytime you engage Combat, Stealth or Hacking you have the feeling that you've seen these disciplines done better. Combat for example feels loose with a hit detection from hell and has been done way better by games like Borderlands 3 (Stat besed shooting as well but the gunplay is a whole other league)
The open world is crowded but feels dead because you can't do anything aside from driving from mission to mission. There is basically no interaction with NPCs.
The Story seems interessting but suffers massively from the dead environments and the overall rushed feeling. Your Lifepath for example seems to be completely irrelevant to the plot. After an hour of play at max you are on track with the other two lifepaths. So why bother at all??
But these are the minor Problems. The biggest problems are BUGS, BUGS everywhere! Starting from animation Bugs and going all the way to broken quest (Google for Delamain Taxi quest for example).
I sincerly can't believe that this game took so long to develop and still launched in such a desolate state. I really hope for some major updates but as for the time of this review (20, Jan. 2021) I really can't recommend to this broken Game!
