Total disappointment. No only Red Dead Redemption 2 has better systems while being older but also GTA 3 has better police and driving system and that game is 20+ years old.
A lot of people have given it low reviews. However I think a lot of that comes from overblown expectations and a buggy launch.
The game is fun. It's not revolutionary, it's not hugely innovative, but it's solid. The open world is nice, the setting is cool af, the gameplay is nice, it's a lot of fun. About the only bad thing I could say is you can't play it with your friends and even if the game is single player the setting really is made for being played with friends which makes sense since the setting was made for a tabletop rpg.
As long as you walk into this game with the expectation of a cyberpunk open world rpg you will likely have a lot of fun. If you liked the Shadowrun Dragonfall game you will also likely enjoy this game.
Despite some bugs still visible in 2022, Cyberpunk 2077 is a masterpice, a flawed one, but a masterpice nonetheless. I never was involved in its development so I came to it after playing The Witcher 3 with no expectations, and found a FPS with RPG touches, it is not a deep RPG system but it is enjoyable, the shooting is fun, the stealth is fun and Night City... the world building is top class, everything is full of details, I've been playing games for 30 years and never saw something like this, in my opinion is the best looking game ever.
Just to finish, I liked the story and sidequests, found the characters very interesting and well written, so my recommendation would be to give it a try.
2 years 950 hours later, can safely say that while this game is far from perfect, it is still enjoyable.
I do feel the game world is lacking in the variety of activities (I wish there was more racing, more boxing, and other types of mini-games) but the characters make going through it worth it even after you have done it all before: every character is incredibly varied and lifelike and I never get tired of hearing what they have to say. The facial animations and voice acting is top notch.
Additional replay value comes from character build variety, especially after Patch 1.5 fixed and readjusted the perks. Mods also help a lot. If you have a PC, do yourself a favor and get the PC version.
The graphics are excellent, but if you are going to use raytracing, I highly recommend an RTX card because DLSS offers better quality than FSR and you can control the sharpening (as of patch 1.5).
Sound is rich and detailed and the music ranges from "meh" to "so awesome you need to add it to your device."
Overall, I recommend you buy on sale.
A fantastic game! Incomplete ? Sure, but this will change in the future! One of my top 5 games in the last 20 years of game play. The characters, visuals, story and game play is stunning. I can follow the main story line or just walk down the street and explorer the world anyway I want. I love it.
