CDPR have earned back much of the good faith that they lost at the initial launch. Consistent patches have crushed most of the glaring bugs, provided significnat performance uplifts, and delviered generous bonus content.
Is it better than Witcher 3 ? No. But the base games for both are certainly of a similar quality.
Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine were both incredible so i'm really looking forward to what CDPR can do with a full expansion.
Congratulations!
I found it quite immersive, even though I did struggle navigating Night City. The open world is mostly a, though with a lot of love to detail, painted facade. And even the locations marked as "Explore" are a bit disappointing, because there frankly isn't anything to explore. No interesting conversations or anything. So being able to interact with Night City, beyond the quests, is something where the realisation isn't that close to its potential.
Because - and now back to the positives - you can feel the love and hard work people have poured into this game. The whole "makeup" of the city, with the weather, the streets, the people, the different fractions, is just a beautiful scenery. It really transports you into this different world. Having watched the Edgerunners TV show even amplified that. Congratulations on that! That was an amazing decision.
But what really caught me off guard, are the main NPCs: their personalities, their background stories and there emotional involvement in Vs life. I was sad when Jacky died. I was said when I couldn't continue building a relationship with Panam anymore (by the way, that was the biggest letdown for me: it doesn't make senses, that I simply can't interact with Panam and all the other main NPCs anymore, after the quests are done.) These characters grow on you, or at least that's what happened to me.
Having finished basically all the quests and two endings so far, I spend like an hour, wandering through Night City, having a few exchanges with gangs and kept on hoping that somehow that would be something left to discover. It was a strange feeling, like a ghost, that nobody is bothered by but definitely has no reason, no purpose to stick around anymore.
So, congratulations again to CD Project Red. I can only hope there will be another Cyberpunk in the future. And what I really wish for, is longer lasting relationships with these NPCs, that I connected with during my adventures.
Cheers!
Vibes:
It's a very fun futuristic GTA style game. For me, it scratches that itch well, there's always stuff to do in the city. It looks really good too, with areas really representing different cyberpunk genre vibes including Blade Runner, Akira, Fifth Element, etc. Graphics are often beautiful, with main characters being detailed and articulate, the world is full of sun light and shadows, ray tracing, etc.
Feel:
Combat is fun because there are many different weapons, mods, upgrades, and scenarios which offers the player a variety of ways to play and experiment. Driving in the city is fun offering a feeling similar to playing GTA San Andreas.
Bugs and Performance:
I see a lot of complaints about technical issues here, but for me, since day 1, on multiple machines, I've maybe suffered about 2-3 crashes and maybe 3 bugs that required a re-load. That's it. Performance has been good too.
Playing on a Lenovo laptop with i9 CPU, 32 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB.
Weaknesses:
It would be nice to see things like flying cars, be able to ride the subway in real time, things like that, which would elevate it above GTA. Alas, they're absent.
Also, for an RPG with transhumanist elements, character customization is quite limited. NPC's often have cooler physical and fashion attributes than you have. Also, I would like to be able to make my character THICC, however you cannot satisfactorily control female breast and butt size. Sounds like a minor thing, but honestly, I feel like this game should have it.
Hope: CDPR has been updating the game consistently. Hopefully they contionue to support and improve the game, to a level of quality similar to NO MAN'S SKY, which I also loved to play from Day 1.
4.5/5
First of all: I did not see any trailers or early demos before playing the game, so I started without any expectations.
I started playing with Version 1.04 and played through the whole game without any major issues. It's a great game with lots of fun and I love it. Unfortunately during my second playthough I encountered some bugs which did not exist during the first playthough. I can understand that people who watched the early demos and announcements from many years ago might be disappointed with some of the missing features etc., but that doesn't mean the game was bad, it's really not. Still one of my favourit of all time! I think it all comes down to expectations, if you start with a clean mind, you'll probably love it. If you expect something else, you might not like it so much.
I suggest: Give it a try without prejudice and see for yourself. As a little tip: I personally love the parcour possibilities (jumping and running over roofs, pipes, etc.) with the double jump feature. It's so much fun to explore places above the street live! :)
The game got lots of hate when it came out. Some of it was deserved, however the devs have fixed tons of bugs as well as added a lot of good stuff into the game.
I just finished it for the first time after letting it sit so they could fix it up in 2020. This game is amazing. The story is very interesting, the art is great, the game runs smoothly now, and it has good sound design.
