I'm having a good time so far, but the game really needs a Walk Toggle for the mouse & keyboard users as well as optimizations in crowded city areas, so that the frame rate doesn't drop 15 frames on a 3080.
My own experience has been very well overall. Bugs are there and apparent, but hardly game breaking in 98% of cases when they crop up. I have run into a few quests that I would reload because I did not get the result I wanted, or failed outright. Only a few of these then become broken where dialog won't advance or the area i need to get to is locked and won't open as expected. By few, I mean it. maybe 3 quests have acted in this manner. some areas are literal death traps if you step into them. I stepped off a maybe 10ft ledge near a bridge and immediately died every time I tried. I had the same thing happen if I don't use the "front door" in some perp areas. That's a bit more restrictive than it really should be.
Big things.
No way to alter key bindings. this should be a standard for any game.
Photo mode "drone" view acts more like a selfie stick than a drone. If i want to stare into my ear, I should be able to. Camera swings awkwardly around character. Distance near and far is severely limited, though I suppose this could be used to view around obstacles, hence the limitation.
Cars are either way too strong, or the city is made of papier-mache. kbm controls are clunky, at best. acceleration is full tilt or nothing and steering is worse than a cart with a floppy wheel.
Melee fighting is rough. When I dodge to the left or right, incoming attacks still land. the mob just flip 90 degrees and hits, so dodging only useful backwards. this turns any melee fight into ali vs liston as you scoot backwards in a circle to avoid all incoming damage. Ask Vik, he'll clear it up for you.
AI needs major improved. Many times, bodies are "discovered" and everyone becomes alerted. had it happen within seconds of a choke and the closest mob being on the floor above. This doesn't even go into mobs popping into existence right on top of me during combat.
Graphically, the game is beautiful, at least on my 2060. I can see where the game could be, so my rating reflects that.
(PS4 Pro) First off: Yes, I am playing on an outdated console, and yes--it was intentional. No, I am not here to whine about the low-mid spec visuals. They're about what I would expect based upon the pre-release Sys Req chart. The only thing that I will say is that they CAN be improved/optimized a bit further, but it may require more work from the devs than they are willing to put in--especially since the focus is upon high-end PCs and the new 4K boxes from MS and Sony. The constant crashes and game-breaking bugs will likely be patched. Null sweat, Chooms.
Cyberpunk is an action-RPG that borrows elements from the likes of Deus Ex and Bethesda's Fallout in terms of mechanics and design. This is a good thing--especially since CDPR has mostly managed to integrate these systems into their open world to great effect...and with style.
Character creation: Your choice of Origin--Corpo, Street Kid, or Nomad) determines your intro to the game and provides optional dialogue/interactions, but is mostly there for flavor. The various cosmetic and gender choices have little effect upon gameplay, so go nuts. Your Attributes and Perks determine your gameplay choices, so take your time and tailor them to your preferred style and gear.
The gunplay and melee combat are solid with a few odd quirks that work well after a brief adjustment period. Currently, there are mild to severe input lag and inconsistencies that seem to be tied to performance issues, but these rarely affect gameplay (at least indoors or within missions. The open streets are another story.) The UI and vehicles are problematic, but functional.
Personally, I have had just as much fun wandering and "living the life" as I have with the setpiece story gigs. At its core, Cyberpunk is a very engaging and an interesting game to explore--I only wish that the sparse nature of the console version didn't so clearly reveal the relatively shallow nature of this digital world--right before it crashes. Still--I'm digging it. ;)
So far I have been having a great time playing and only encounter a minor glitches. I know some platforms have been having issues and feel lucky I haven't had those issues. Certainly not as glitchy as games by a certain Maryland developer. Is it perfect, not by a longshot. Not fond control scheme, but I can overcome. Wish I had an RTX card but I can handle the 30 to 45 FPS my 1070 cranks out because the game looks amazing even at that low frame rate.
I have to say the near 40 year wait for a computer version of one of my favorite Tabeltop RPGs was worth the wait.
Coming from The Witcher 3, one of my favourite games of all time, this one a huge leap forward.
The focus being:
- a very well-written story with meaningful choices
- fun, challenging combat
- beautiful graphics and art direction
- unforgettable characters
If you're expecting GTA, Cyberpunk 2077 is probably not for you -- the peripheral elements are not the main attraction here.
The game needs a bit more polishing, since it's essentially an early-access title at this point, but will likely become GOTY by mid-2021.
