I'm at 100 hours now and think it's time to write a review.
It's the best thing I've played with Half-Life Alyx this year and will certainly continue to play for a long time. Apart from small bugs, I haven't had a bug in the 100 hours that I had to restart a mission or load a savegame, just as I can't report a crash. This masterpiece can only get better with the upcoming patches. I'm already curious about what DLC's and addons will come.
Thank you CDPR and the whole team for this masterpiece of game development, you have outdone yourself! ! !
This game is very ambitious for the year 2020! We discover a very large open world. It suffers from bug totally excused thanks to the quality of the script work and the staging. With the coming of hotfixes and free DLC, the title will be at least as good as the overrated "The Witcher 3" within a year.
I'm sure if covid never happen and there wasn't a shortage of consoles and they didn't have to worry about it working on previous gen and just released it on next gen and everyone got consoles to play it on the preferred platform+ the studio having enough actual regular work time as intended it would have been perfect. Yea there's a few bugs but nothing game breaking on PC, nothing that keeps you , if you're not an asshat, from seeing the game for what it was intended to be, and with a few more patches will be.
I have to admit, the game has some bugs - but at least on PC they are not really disturbing. Rather small funny glitches from time to time. Had once a problem in the first mission where Jackie would not continue if you silently take out the guy with the LMG. For others he stood in the doorway and you could not proceed. But that can be solved by just using an auto-save point from a few minutes before.
Unfortunately I cannot speak for console versions as I don't own them. But sources which play them on PS4Pro and PS5 tell me it's actually pretty ok and they could finish it without major hickups.
I would not see the game as a pure RPG but rather story-driven atmospheric game - which like it's predecessor Witcher 3 was too (there are choices in dialogs, but they do not really matter a lot most of the time).
Side missions are ok, they are not as interesting as in Witcher 3 to be honest, but still SOOOOOO MUCH better than bull... busy-work like in Assassin's Creed (boring as ...).
World is ok. Police AI/handling should be improved, otherwise ... yeah random NPCs walking around doing random stuff ... well, that's normal.
Main missions are just awesome, very cinematic and excellent performance and a lot to see.
In my opinion most people ranting about the game didn't even play it or are some spoiled little kids just shitstorming about anything having no clue about development whatsoever.
This is a AAA game and should be noted as such. Current user feedback is driven by social media and not by people actually playing the game.
The game looks great. It feels very much like a living city. It is large and doesn't get repetative. Desert area is great contrast and a welcome change of scenery. The story is very good. Characters are well thought out and can give you the feels. Side missions are also very well done. They range from horrifying to hilarious. The music is very good, both gameplay themes and the in game radio. The general aesthetic and design is solid. There is definetly a "controlled chaos" feel about everything.
That said Cyberpunk leaves a lot to be disired because of how awesome it is when firing on all cylinders. Gameplay, specifically melee combat can be a bit awkward. Character progression is finite and a build needs to be very focused to be maxed out. There is no respec for Attributes. Perks can be though. Crafting is meh. I enjoy crafting so I have high standards. Initial character creation is final. Origin isn't very important to the Main Story. Driving can feel like iceskating with roller skates. AI is a bit wonky at times. Factions (gangs, corps, nomad fams, etc...) can't be joined or really influenced unless they are directly involved in the story. Once completed, it is completed. There is nothing left in the world to do. All gigs, jobs, and side missions are one offs. There aren't any dungeons or enemy zones that can be replayed. There aren't "generic" rando missions or quests. The world will not reset upon "completion".
So why a 4. Well it is very good but isn't perfect. More importantly I want more, and unfortunately some of that "more" should have already been in the game. So good and bad. Like the game, mostly good. What is here is a solid game however you shake it. Hopefully with a few years of support & dlc / expansions ahead of it so CDPR can have time to plan a better approach to a possible sequel.
