To keep this short, this game is fun. A really solid mainstream fun in whatever dose size you want. Especially the story.
The problem is, it needed like another 6 moths in development, as not all mechanics and approaches are made equal.
From now on, it can only get better. My advice:
See the system requirements. If your rig corresponds, then take the game for it is and:
If you are looking for a good mainstream fun right off the bat, wait for first story DLC or GOTY.
If you are willing to stomach some bugs and some clunky controls, go for it.
Inadequate QA, inevitable poor project management, and realistic goal-setting aside, I liked it. I liked it a lot. In fact, I loved it. And then it was done.
When the large patch came out I immediately fired it back up and finished all quests that were bugged and completed any final items remaining. I was/am sad. I want more.
The world remains fascinating. The daring allowance of how one imagines a society evolves that has lost many traditional moral foundations. The elimination and extension of mores and values into what constitutes "normal" all show a world well thought out and designed. As a placeholder for what the Cyberpunk universe could be, it is amazing. As a game, it is adequate.
Mostly I am not seeking major changes in gameplay or functionality. I am mostly seeking a broader universe to explore.
I want to see currently "locked" buildings unlocked and storylines extended within them. I want to have more and broader relationships and friendships. I want to have more difficult ethical/moral dilemnas of how to play out the trolley problem in an array of ways.
I can see a nearly identical world w/ a "play mode" overlaid upon it. Where bored Cyberpunk universe citizens sign up to play (fill in the blank) via selected UI overlays that they can see via their implants. Where such games malfunction and cause...issues.
I just...want...more.
I have sunken nearly 300 hours in this game, when i got the 'rona. I've done one full 100% playthrough, explored all endings and paths and a few attempted to go on another playthroughs, but gave up real soon.
This game has a gargantuan potetial, yet theese things just bothered me for the whole time, and are the reason i uninstalled:
-Every UI interaction takes too long, menu navigation is honesly just a half done bad job.
-The game is too overwhellming, everything about it. But i guess that is the theme of the Cyberpunk "franchise"... I was confused like never in my life for the first 50+ hours
-Looting is an annoying chore There are too much items separatedly, so there's no use to use "pick up all". And still, that action requires seconds. Witcher 3 had it right!
-Too much talking and dialog choices,
-combined with the monotone action. I found the META to be sneaking and hacking, which just eats away at anyones life-time. Especially on Hardest diff,
-which causes to reload saves 20 times in one mission,
-so as a result of all this, gave me such an anxiety. DO NOT PLAY THIS IF YOU ARE AN ANXIOUS PERSON.
-Also related to the Cyberpunk theme, you never have enough money to buy items, even materials for crafting. Especially since those are used for UPGRADING your favourite items, the crafting materials become giganticaly expensive. (And believe me, i loot like a madman, everything, down to the last cig burnout)
-There is no way you can specialize in multiple ways and get the most out of the game, gameplaywise and storrywise, "thanks" to character attribute dependent dialog choices and story paths,
-so the gameplay is a bit boring. Maybe because of the FPS factor? (I"m not an FPS guy)
BUT:
-the STORY is AMAZING
-the WORLD has so much DEPTH to it, that it's almost real and overwhelming,
-as do the CHARACTERS
-BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS, although again, too "dark" dark areas, just like in the Witcher 3, so you may have to bump up your gamma. And again the lights are too light
Super enjoyable nonetheless. I had an amazing time in Night City the first time I played and I'm quickly getting ready to take another route a year later to see what the patches have brought me. Overall I think the bugs were never quite as severe for me on PC, so I never really cared, but it's something to take into considering for CDPR moving forward.
I don't think this might become a timeless classic like The Witcher 3, but I'm quite sure it will go down as a great, enjoyable experience, albeit a cautionary tale.
