Yes, there are some issues (i experienced very little in the 22h+ i played on pcs); yes, the simulation of the city is despite terrific looking not always convincing as well as the AI is not always convcining. But this criticism is superficial: This is the best game ive played this year and one of the best games of the last years, probably of all time (not sure yet, this is a question that can only be answered in retrospect and with some distance to the experience of playing). The characters are all very well written, the missions are terrific and varied, the world of cyberpunk is breathing the stuff ive read in Gibsons Novels; the atmosphere of the game is just singular.
I'm at around 70 hours into Cyberpunk and I'm having a lot of fun with the game. There are features that were really focused on leading up to the release that are not in the actual game which is disappointing. For example the role of the different gangs in NC. I thought they would be more thought out but they are all just enemies, plain and simple. That's really all there is to it.
I'm really enjoying the main story and the side missions have been very interesting. I like the combat system but the weapon types and attachments need some work.
One big complaint that I have is that making money and accumulating parts for upgrades just takes way too long. I was planning on keeping my favorite pistol from the beginning of the game all the way to the end but quickly found out that constantly upgrading it wasn't really possible since I never have enough parts.
I've run into a fair amount of glitches. The worst being one where a door stopped working, leaving me trapped inside of a ripper doc clinic. I've had one crash so far but saving often prevented me from losing much progress.
Despite the issues I have with the game, I'm still having a ton of fun with it and that's what counts. Once I finish, I'll take a break and look forward to playing through the whole thing over again later. Hopefully with some significant updates and a newgame+ mode.
With some fixes and updates, this game could easily be a 5/5. I just wish it was in that state on release day.
I know there are alot of negativity surround CDPR and the launch, but this review is not about the 7-8 year old PS4 and Xbox One consoles, this is about the PC.
And to clarify, i havent completed the game yet, i saw that many recommend to to do sidequests because they can influence the main story, so im doing that.
There is still tons of missions to complete and ive been playing about 40 hours.
Lets start with the negativ:
It has bugs yes, but i havent seen game breaking bugs after 40 hours of playtime.
For me, it feels alot like the launch of The Witcher 3, that game had bugs, but they were all patched and it is one of my favorite games of all time.
I hold CDPR in such a high esteem that it doesnt matter to me, because i know it will me fixed and many more things will be added, had the game been unplayable like many other smaller games do at the same price range, it would have been another thing entirely.
I really didnt understand the button mapping to begin with, ive gotten used to it now, but i still understand the choice on button C for crouch and skipping coversations, ive by mistake skipped lots of conversations doing this.
The positive:
The graphics are absolutely amazing and the optimization seems good, im running it on i7 7700K, 16GB RAM and an RX 5700 XT installed on M2 SSD, 1080p and almost all on Ultra at about 60fps.
The Attention to detail is insane, sometimes i just wanna walk around just exploring.
Buildings, Cars and characters not to mention the story characters are really well done, the facial animations is the best ive ever seen, you can truly see and feel their emotions.
The atmosphere in Night City just driving around or walking in the rain is really something special.
The sound effects, voice over and the soundtrack are superply done, sometimes i just wanna stay in the menus and listen to the V soundtrack.
Sometimes mid battle the soundtrack just intensifies and gives me goosebumps.
Missions are really interesting like Witcher 3.
I came into this without the hype and going overboard with the general excitment surrounding the game. I noticed bugs were occuring quite freqeuntly but I didn't mind it. There were some frustrations with the controls but I happen to get used to it overtime,I'm sure there are gonna be some patches that might fix most problems. I like the game.
