An In Development Gem.

I own this for another platform, but am a big fan of the game and am intrigued by a DRM free copy. So I've bought it twice. Which should be a pretty good indicator of how I feel about it. Summary: The Curious Expedition is an archeological-exploration-roguelike played out over 6 episodes, or expeditions, where you lead your explorer (of which there are many to choose from, all with significantly different feels), and their team to try and gain treasures, fame, and fortune before you go insane from the stress. It's brilliantly done. I like this so much I've recorded a daily, ~180 episode series of my Youtube channel - and I'm still having fun with it. The Good: - Challenging but not impossible gameplay - Unique characters allowing for significant replayability - Varying strategies depending on character, playstyle, and need - Active, interested, response developers - Developers are actively patching on a regular pace The Bad: - This is a game in development. That means it can be rough, there are bugs, some very minor, some more major

Pick up your rope and get ready...

The game is just amazing. If you like the board game "Fortune & Glory" you will probably love this game. The graphics are lovely the way how to discover the world and the world itself are almost endless. Also it brings a lot of fun, especially when one of your companions gets the idea to become a cannibal and eats other companions or when you don't read the text through just push a button and in the next day you will be chased by natives because one of your companions kidnapped the king’s daughter (oops). Or you just destroyed accidently the habitat of natives, who offered you a bed and food one day before (I still feel sorry, but I needed this treasure). If you are a fan of Adventure and RPG Games and Adventure movies (like Indiana Jones of course ;) ) and /or if you are looking for a game where you can discover randomly worlds and will have almost the same freedom as had every discoverer before you, this is your game. PS. If someone asking to find a box and tells you, not to open the box, I recommend to follow his advice. -.-

My favourite Roguelike

A great, polished rogue like which plays homage to the spirit of exploration of the late 19th and early 20th century. It throws in some fictional and fantastical elements too like giant crabs, female explorers and dinosaurs. Overall I found it addictive and fun.

An amusing rogue-lite... On "easy".

I was looking for a game that I could play while I listened to podcasts or YouTube videos, something that wasn't too sound-dependent or demanding of twitch-reflexes or concentration, and "Curious Expedition" isn't bad for that if you adjust the volume sliders. (Maybe don't hide the "settings" button next to all the social media guff, though, guys? Just sayin'...) The setting and basic mechanics are fun. There's always something pleasurable about uncovering a new map, even if it's randomly built. It takes a while to get used to certain intricacies- what equipment does, what NPC abilities/flaws mean in a practical sense, what you should bring on a mission. (Do play the tutorial.) And while the "levelling up" system often doesn't make a *huge* difference, there's still that pleasing sense of development and enhancement. Then, hoping to unlock features, you try playing on the middle difficulty level. Oh, you sweet summer child. Welcome to the world of RNG biting you in the butt. There is always a certain level of roguelike, random-number-generated monkey business to be dealt with, but at "medium" difficulty it laughs at your attempts to allay it. Start with no NPCs, and you cannot carry food AND anything to deal with terrain AND carry some loot to finance the next expedition. (Okay, technically you CAN... but it's suicide.) Magnetic mountains mess up your compass, costing you time wandering uselessly and using up your morale-maintaining supplies. Enemies get more combat dice, and taking a paper cut mid-mission is a death sentence for an NPC unless you're carrying expensive medical supplies (because you're brimming with inventory space, right?). There's just a few too many random tragedies, some downright stupid. You block all damage but still take a wound. Villages offer you a pack animal, then immediately demand its sacrifice. Victory is rendered impossible by an unannounced need for [a] randomly generated item(s). A pity. There's most of a good game, here.

Good and frustrating

I've played around 25 runs and I am yet to complete the game (successfully finish all missions). There is simply too big of a random element to the game in a sense that you can make all the "right" choices and still end up in situation where you are unable to complete the game (you get to last mission which has bunch of mountains and you have no money for dynamite). Add occasional game crash and bugs (title is still in development) and that can add further frustrations... for example my best run ended with game crashing - I've had tons of money, supplies, desired companion composition and game crashed when I started final mission. Obviously I went back into the game to reload - and, surprise, the only option allowed to me was starting new game. So, definitely solid and interesting title, but if you are not at least partially masochist, wait for final version and then purchase.
