What begins as a simple rescue mission becomes the battleground of a new war, as alien invaders swarm over a North Korean island chain. Armed with a powerful Nanosuit, you must achieve your objectives by any means necessary. Become invisible to stalk enemy patrols, or boost your strength to lay waste to vehicles. An advanced AI controls your enemies, so play smart. One wrong move out here could be your last.
Adapt to Survive – An epic story thrusts players into an ever-changing environment, forcing them to adapt their tactics and approach to conquer battlefields ranging from newly frozen jungle to zero-gravity alien environments.
Suit up – A high-tech Nanosuit allows gamers to augment their abilities in real time on the battlefield. Players can choose to enhance their speed, strength, armor and cloaking abilities to approach situations in creative tactical ways.
Customizable Weaponry – A huge arsenal of modular weaponry gives gamers unprecedented control over their play style. Blow the opposition away with experimental weapons, discover alien technology and utilize custom ammunition from incendiary-tipped rounds to tactical munitions that can silently put foes to sleep.
Veni Vidi Vici – Lifelike enemy AI challenges players to assess a situation and approach it strategically. It isn't about having the fastest trigger finger – players are challenged to be proactive in the fight, not reactive.
Zero-G Gameplay – Battle a horrifying alien species in a true Zero-gravity environment, where physics change everything as players must adapt to moving in Zero-G and contending with the recoil from their weapons and more.
Next-Generation Graphics – Built from the ground up using Crytek's proprietary CryENGINE 2™, Crysis' visuals define "state of the art," with full DX10 support and scalable options to deliver solid performance on older machines.
Open, Physicalized World – Choose your own path through the open world of Crysis, destroying obstacles, driving vehicles from VTOL's to boats and using the environment itself against your enemies.
Today, Crysis is an amazing classical game. That is, if you happen to still rock Windows 7 or earlier. It crashes constantly on 10, making it totally unplayable.
This game is really good, anybody who loves FPS should play it. It's my first time playing it on GOG and it took me 15 hours on the harder difficult. Amazing game.
It's a hard game to review because it's not really a game as much it is a tech demo. The gun play isn't anything special, the ai is mediocre at best and the suit powers are far too fleeting to ever have any fun with.
This is very much a stealth focused game and at times it captures the essence of Predator or Rambo. Crawling through grass, cloak engaged, sniping someone in the head and watching allies panic. It's very compelling and at the time of release, I would imagine expectations were a bit lower. Now though, the ai breaks any immersion. Getting shot at from a mile away while you hide in the brush by a gun boat is oof. No fun.
Meanwhile I have a pile of bodies over here and people keep walking into my line of sight just waiting to join them. It's never a "will he see me or won't he see me" in a fun way like thief, it almost always feels like the ai are blind as bats or they are cheating. Never any inbetween.
I can't reccomend it to anyone who hasn't already played it. You can do better, graphically, stealth wise and cool powers wise. For those who have though, This is still a nice looking game with spots of great atmosphere and immersion, just try not to look behind the curtain to preserve those rose tinted glasses.
This game runs great on my old Mid-2011 imac, using a WINE wrapper to emulate a PC environment. I initially had a problem with the shadows; despite the shadow option chosen I couldnt get them to come on until I added "r_ShadowTexFormat 3" once the game was running! After that the shadows were on and I couldnt detect any lag in the game from it. I highly recommend this game (at least the first half, where you get to fight the evil NORTH KOREANS way off in the future in 2020).
Crysis inherited the solid core gameplay from Far Cry + the suit abilities which includes also the
possibility to modify your weapons to your liking with enhancements you so far gathered in the field.
Many things are destructable in this game, not just trees, and you can grab things - even enemys - and
throw them. The players mobility is well done in this game and additionaly you can use vehicles of all
sorts.
Basicly the first half of the game consists of more or less large levels that functions as sandboxes. You
have your objectives, but large freedom is given to you on how to tackle them. The second half of the
game is way more linear and ends as a corridorhooter on an aircraft carrier. So its a balanced mix of
different fps styles.
The game has not a epic length. A decently skilled player will need around 12-15 hour to complete it.
However, there is a ton of well done fanmade maps out there, that prolongs the fun for many hours more. Mostly available nowdays at ModDB,like for example Nuclear Cataclysm.
Personaly Crysis is still after all those years one of my favourite fps, simply because its core gameplay
is nicely done.
