Crysis®

Thematically one of the best immersive action games I've ever played. One of the few games that the physics in-game actually helps you during gameplay. Like destroying entire houses, exploding towers with snipers. I love the idea of approaching however you like, whether stealth mode on camo entering a safe place to defeat every enemy or go berserk. I like how reactive the environment is to your actions. The leaves moving while walking, the wind actually taking place in gameplay, how realistic water looks. The game design lets you do everything you can think of, from br4eaking cranes that can eliminate enemies below or dropping some fuel tanks to a helicopter. However, itr definitely shallows right after you enter the mountain. Alien encounters are mediocre at best and simple point and shoot, so much so that it throws away every gameplay you learned. Which it could be great on paper for the narrative like feeling helpless with alien tech, but it all breaks down to hiding, shooting a lot and hiding again. Boss fight was frustrating and the rescue mission with Prophet are laughable, Ashley in OG RE4 is way more useful. Plus, it really hurts to see the narrative being thrown with heroism, while it was the dumb guy in charge of the ship, the one who started in the first place. There's no philosophical and melancholic journey like Halo, but a pure physics and immersion sim spectacle. it is good enough to at least play it once.

For many years, including at the time of this review or retrospective, ‘Crysis’ is the benchmark by which players judge the power of their PCs. Such is the legacy of the game, and it’s easy to forget to talk about what a wonderful game ‘Crysis’ is. Needless to say, the graphics are wonderfully detailed, sound effects are booming, and sound design is top notch because you’ll need to pay attention to the sights and sounds of your in-games surroundings to succeed. Enemies are smart, but you can outwit them by using the power of your nanosuit and the geography of your predominantly jungle surroundings. Later levels of ‘Crysis’ are less open and play more linearly, but you’ll still need to make good use of the terrain and sounds you hear to stay alive, especially when the plentiful firefights get frantic and tough. ‘Crysis’ is not an easy game, but rewards you for playing smart and for your perseverance. Because of that, it is extremely rewarding, especially after a frantic firefight or boss battle. It’s a game I was more than happy to purchase again in DRM-free form so I can enjoy it again and again.

It was very harsh in the beginning - low ammo, frequent deaths, very poor fps on High settings. Then I discovered that going down from 8x to 4x anti-aliasing has a tremendous effect - fps doubled! Game changer, plus I got a hang of it and started dying less. This is the moment it got really fun! Overall I really enjoyed and got totally blown away by the graphics, physics and AI for a game from 2007! It aged really well and still worth to play it. A note here - I played on Linux through Wine. Basically no complaints except the hiccups with videos, that was indeed annoying! Other than that - butter smooth on my oldie GTX960 (well, most of the time, sometimes the amount of particles and fires were daunting for my config, causing ugly fps drops several times). Final words - highly recommended! P.S. Not a single crash, amazing considering that I played not under Windows!

the game is great for the first half or so, spoiler alert......... When the aliens come out all the fun is over and it turns into running back and forth in the open while shooting up at alien shit, no more sneaking, no more tactics, no more fun.

I haven't been able to get this game to even boot to the title screen. Not really acceptable. I don't buy games to have to put in fixes myself. I have the hardware to run it and I expect to run when I hit play.
