Crysis, the first game of a well-received trilogy, is a first-person shooter set in the year 2019 and the spiritual successor to Far Cry.

What begins as a simple rescue mission becomes the battleground of a new war, as alien invaders swarm over a North Korean island chain. Armed with a powerful Nanosuit, you must achieve your objectives by any means necessary. Become invisible to stalk enemy patrols, or boost your strength to lay waste to vehicles. An advanced AI controls your enemies, so play smart. One wrong move out here could be your last.
Adapt to Survive – An epic story thrusts players into an ever-changing environment, forcing them to adapt their tactics and approach to conquer battlefields ranging from newly frozen jungle to zero-gravity alien environments.
Suit up – A high-tech Nanosuit allows gamers to augment their abilities in real time on the battlefield. Players can choose to enhance their speed, strength, armor and cloaking abilities to approach situations in creative tactical ways.
Customizable Weaponry – A huge arsenal of modular weaponry gives gamers unprecedented control over their play style. Blow the opposition away with experimental weapons, discover alien technology and utilize custom ammunition from incendiary-tipped rounds to tactical munitions that can silently put foes to sleep.
Veni Vidi Vici – Lifelike enemy AI challenges players to assess a situation and approach it strategically. It isn't about having the fastest trigger finger – players are challenged to be proactive in the fight, not reactive.
Zero-G Gameplay – Battle a horrifying alien species in a true Zero-gravity environment, where physics change everything as players must adapt to moving in Zero-G and contending with the recoil from their weapons and more.
Next-Generation Graphics – Built from the ground up using Crytek's proprietary CryENGINE 2™, Crysis' visuals define "state of the art," with full DX10 support and scalable options to deliver solid performance on older machines.
Open, Physicalized World – Choose your own path through the open world of Crysis, destroying obstacles, driving vehicles from VTOL's to boats and using the environment itself against your enemies.
Crysis in and of itself is a pretty great game with tech and ideas ahead of its time. The main star of the show is the Nanosuit and how it augments your agility, strength, endurance, and a light-bending cloak system that gives you the ability to reenact 90% of the scenes in Predator. What's not to love? Even when the game is at its worst with linearity and vehicles, it's still a game worth playing even today.
The GOG version is the best version of Crysis to date, doubly so since it bundles the x64 binaries and doesn't have any outdated DRM. I had Crysis 1 and Warhead on Steam since last year or so but it became increasingly harder to run them both at a reasonable preset, eventually culminating in both stopping working altogether. The GOG verisons of both Crysis 1 and Warhead do not suffer from any of that.
Oh and you can use it as a benchmark, that's probably important.
There's a widely-reported problem of Crysis not being able to start up. I still have the same OS (Windows 10) and hardware from when I last played it on GOG, so I think it was broken by either a Windows 10 and/or a GeForce driver updates.
I found a very simple fix to get it working for me, which does not involve downloading anything:
1) In GOG, go to the Crysis main page
2) Settings > Manage installation > Configure > Features
3) Scroll to the bottom and click "Add another executable / arguments"
4) For File, select your Crysis launcher file. On my machine, this is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Crysis\CrysisLauncher.exe
5) For arguments, enter "-dx9" (without the quotes)
6) Select "Default executable", then click OK
7) Click Play, the game started running normally for me
Some story spoilers will be mentioned. Vague but still spoilers.
not as good as the hype surrounding it was.
I played this since the very first release on PC.
Visually very good, sound too.
The shooting mechanics are not the best for me. There is something that I can't explain, but, it just doesn't feel as good, as satisfying, as other games released around that time, for example Rainbow Six Vegas. I am not saying the game is bad. Far from it.
The story is a mix of "modern day"/alternative reality with a small touch at first of sci-fi, turning into full on sci-fi later on. I have to say, as a fan of sci-fi (half of my movies are sci-fi), I enjoyed the story. It was well presented and a lot of fun to play through. Any negative points I have about the game have to do with parts of the non sci-fi story and enemies, plus a couple of bugs that the last time I played this game (a couple of years ago) were still in place. For example at one point in the first 1/3 of the game, you get to have a "mission" in a village where you face enemy armor. TWICE (different installations) I had to repeat this hard mission/objective (if you don't play on easy), because the game decided to not technically save the game after I finished it. TWICE. Fair enough, this particular bug only appeared in this section of the game, but it was still very annoying.
A part that I call the BS difficulty of FPS of the time, when you are under attack by enemy helicopters. Other FPS games of the time used to have something similar. The type of mission where the enemy magic detection that can sense where you are and hit you with any bullets they desire regardless of anything that makes sense. Again this is thankfully just one relatively small part of the game, but annoying it is.
For every negative thing about this game there are several more positive ones. It is a fun fps game, which modern PCs can run it just fine. If you like sci-fi and/or modern setting for your FPS, this is a must.
Best version of Crysis is here on GOG.
After 12 years it still has better graphics than most AAA games. I guess thats what happens when you make a game only for PC. Gameplay is good i really liked it back then and i like it now,the levels are linear but they are large they give you the impression its an open world game but its not. You can deal with the objectives in many different ways like if you want to approach stealthy using your suit powers from high ground or through the forest or you can go all guns blazing etc.
Never played this game when everyone else was talking about it. I couldn't dream of affording a computer that can run Crysis. GOG once again makes gaming magic possible. I was reluctant to pick it up because EA, but this game won't require you to wrestle with their hot garbage launcher Origin.
I'd get this ASAP.
