Description

Cronos: The New Dawn is a brutal third-person survival horror where you fight for the future by salvaging the past. Burn monsters before they merge. Extract souls from the living. Adapt or die.

SURVIVE THE FUTURE. SALVAGE THE PAST

Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future.

In the past, you will witness a world in the throes of The Change, a cataclysmic event that forever altered humanity. Meanwhile, in the ravaged wastelands of the future, every moment is a fight for survival against dangerous abominations that will test both your reflexes and your tactical thinking.

You are a Traveler working for the enigmatic Collective, tasked with scouring the wastelands of the future in search of time rifts that will transport you to 1980s-era Poland.

ADAPT OR PERISH

In a desolate world filled with ever-present danger, your survival hinges on your ability to strategize and plan ahead. The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal.

You can manipulate temporal Anomalies to clear a path through the desolate environment, and will have to scavenge for resources to replenish your limited ammo and supplies. Good preparation is key. Once in battle, split-second decisions can mean the difference between life
and death.

DON'T LET THEM MERGE

The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others — through a grotesque process called Merging — to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.

The only way to stop them? Burn their bodies. And do it fast.

If you don’t, you’ll face ever-evolving abominations that will push your combat skills to their limits.

HARVESTER OF SOULS

Your mission is to locate key people from the past who perished in the ensuing apocalypse. Using your all-powerful Harvester, you can extract their Essences and have them accompany you into the future.

But be wary: these essences have a profound impact on your journey.

The more you carry, the more haunted your suit becomes — increasing your prowess on the battlefield but also bringing with them whispers in your ear and flickers into your vision, edging you ever closer to madness.

Cryptic, atmospheric, linear

The aesthetics are top notch, and the Soviet era Poland timey-wimey mystery is engaging. The sluggish movement and dangerous enemies help solidify the survival horror mood - even a single enemy is a credible threat to you, and with limited resources you're always loath to spend more bullets than absolutely necessary. The only things that drags it down slightly for me are a rather linear course through desolate terrain (that otherwise suggests openness) and a couple of puzzle and weapon mechanics that tell me "I am playing a videogame" to the detriment of immersion.

Slow Burn, High Suspense, Fun on A Bun!

Don't go into this expecting something like the Silent Hill 2 remake; this is a very different beast. For one while it's not as scary but it is way more suspenseful & high stress. The enemies, Orphans, are inspired by Dead Space's Necromorphs but instead of adapting to limb loss, they absorb their dead to evolve into stronger variants. So after every fight there's a lingering sense of dread, because you know when you come through an arena again there might another encounter & those enemies will use the old ones to evolve. Unless you burn the bodies, which adds resource management because you might need the burning fuel to access a secret or the resources may be better spent on ammo or healing items. Gameplay wise it's a basic shooter at the core, no frills & reminds me of third person shooters before Gears Of War set the standard. It works & is fine, but I just wish there was some kind of dodge or dash! That's the one thing I wish Bloober brought over from the SH2 remake; the combat dodge. Without it combat can be more stressful than it needs to be. Bloober have done a bloody good job with Cronos, it's a unique beast & while it's not a, debatably, modern classic their SH2 remake it's more than deserving of a buy.

This game is awesome

Survival horror fans rejoice, this game is it. Compelling story & atmosphere, satisfying combat, strategic inventory management, and well designed encounters. Aside from some crashes I was able to get around by skipping the cutscene, game ran perfectly for me. I spent a comfortable 18 hours playing, not too long not too short. And it's on GoG? Chef's kiss. Most things I've read people don't like about it is kinda silly imo: - "Not enough resources" - there was absolutely enough. Be strategic, that's part of the gameplay. Craft the right things at the right time - "Weapons don't do enough damage" - literally one of the first things you're taught is how to charge your weapon. Aim for heads. Upgrade damage. - "There's no map" - the environment is really not complicated, I found it nice to not have to open a map every 10 seconds. Pay attention a little, stop looking at your second screen or phone. - "It's just Dead Space" - I mean if you just look at it on the surface. Completely different setting, different weaponry, different enemy variety, different puzzle mechanics. It's more methodical than Dead Space Idk man if you're an ADHD zoomer maybe you won't like it, but this was so refreshing to play. Between the Silent Hill 2 remake and this, Bloober Team has officially become a studio I'm excited for now

Loved it, wasn't bored ever

Great game, to me the best horror game in years. It is very hard, and you have to manage your recources. I didn't really encounter bugs except once I got stuck so i just quit and reloaded. The story is awesome the gameplay is great the enemies and atmosphere are creepy. It's like exploring the upside down from Stranger things. The only thing I'd want is a dodge or parry, but other than that it's great. No difficulty settings, so if you don't want a challenge don't get it.

Up There With Dead Space

I gotta say, after being super let down by The Callisto Protocol (it was alright, but really felt like a swing and a miss) Cronos actually nails what a solid Dead Space-style game should be in a way I haven't seen done before. Some players have complained about the scarcity of resources, but I find it to be one of the games best moves in terms of game design. You are always given enough to survive, but when you jumped at an enemy behind a corner and missed your first two shots, you know you've made a genuine mistake. Not one of those "oopsie, guess ill have to stomp on an extra enemy to get my ammo back" mistake from similar games, no, you've made a mistake that you WILL feel the consequences of. Better make use of those explosive barrells now, Traveller.
