Description

Cronos: The New Dawn is a brutal third-person survival horror where you fight for the future by salvaging the past. Burn monsters before they merge. Extract souls from the living. Adapt or die.

SURVIVE THE FUTURE. SALVAGE THE PAST

Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future.

In the past, you will witness a world in the throes of The Change, a cataclysmic event that forever altered humanity. Meanwhile, in the ravaged wastelands of the future, every moment is a fight for survival against dangerous abominations that will test both your reflexes and your tactical thinking.

You are a Traveler working for the enigmatic Collective, tasked with scouring the wastelands of the future in search of time rifts that will transport you to 1980s-era Poland.

ADAPT OR PERISH

In a desolate world filled with ever-present danger, your survival hinges on your ability to strategize and plan ahead. The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal.

You can manipulate temporal Anomalies to clear a path through the desolate environment, and will have to scavenge for resources to replenish your limited ammo and supplies. Good preparation is key. Once in battle, split-second decisions can mean the difference between life
and death.

DON'T LET THEM MERGE

The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others — through a grotesque process called Merging — to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.

The only way to stop them? Burn their bodies. And do it fast.

If you don’t, you’ll face ever-evolving abominations that will push your combat skills to their limits.

HARVESTER OF SOULS

Your mission is to locate key people from the past who perished in the ensuing apocalypse. Using your all-powerful Harvester, you can extract their Essences and have them accompany you into the future.

But be wary: these essences have a profound impact on your journey.

The more you carry, the more haunted your suit becomes — increasing your prowess on the battlefield but also bringing with them whispers in your ear and flickers into your vision, edging you ever closer to madness.

Cronos: The New Dawn has an excellent, thoughtful premise that feels dark and dangerous, but does a poor job of executing on its promising sci-fi ideas. A questionable religion born from trying to save the world in the face of a rampaging disease with clear parallels to the global pandemic we all recently experienced is great fodder for a story, but I was left shrugging my shoulders by the end. Thankfully, the gameplay, though familiar, offered plenty to pull me through the approximately 12-hour experience to see the end.

Extremely limited inventory slots sometimes make these battles feel like I'm holding my breath underwater.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a fantastic addition to the survival horror genre, dishing out both survival and horror in equal measures. It can be overwhelming at first, but your confidence improves as you progress thanks to how The Bloober Team has designed the world and its environments. It also piques your curiosity in subtle ways, making you scour the world for snippets of information. Poignant moments in its narrative, shared with the people you meet, make its story a very nuanced exploration of how human greed can have the most devastating consequences, as does the tendency to attempt covering up one's mistakes. This is a game that I would recommend to anybody looking for a meaty story, and a challenging gameplay loop.

A Pleasant Surprise

I honestly didn’t expect this game to be so good, especially since I was skeptical when it was first announced. The gameplay is engaging, and wise inventory management is a must. Combat sequences can be tough at times, especially if you go in unprepared. The graphics are impressive, and the sound design is phenomenal. If you’re looking for a game similar to the Resident Evil or Dead Space series, this one is definitely worth your attention. On the downside, there are some technical issues, like occasional stutters and frame drops. The game is demanding to run, but that’s no surprise considering it’s built on Unreal Engine 5. Thankfully, these issues aren’t severe enough to ruin the experience. In summary: I highly recommend giving Cronos: The New Dawn a try.

The UE5 curse strikes again

Playing on a 9070 XT requires me to disable raytracing (pretty much mandatory) and lower my settings or enable upscaling. I don't expect to do either with any game, nor do I feel like I should. I want to like this game and I liked the 2 hours I played so far, but it's unacceptable to release a game in this state. Refunded for now, will buy once (if) fixed.

Slow Burn, High Suspense, Fun on A Bun!

Don't go into this expecting something like the Silent Hill 2 remake; this is a very different beast. For one while it's not as scary but it is way more suspenseful & high stress. The enemies, Orphans, are inspired by Dead Space's Necromorphs but instead of adapting to limb loss, they absorb their dead to evolve into stronger variants. So after every fight there's a lingering sense of dread, because you know when you come through an arena again there might another encounter & those enemies will use the old ones to evolve. Unless you burn the bodies, which adds resource management because you might need the burning fuel to access a secret or the resources may be better spent on ammo or healing items. Gameplay wise it's a basic shooter at the core, no frills & reminds me of third person shooters before Gears Of War set the standard. It works & is fine, but I just wish there was some kind of dodge or dash! That's the one thing I wish Bloober brought over from the SH2 remake; the combat dodge. Without it combat can be more stressful than it needs to be. Bloober have done a bloody good job with Cronos, it's a unique beast & while it's not a, debatably, modern classic their SH2 remake it's more than deserving of a buy.

A Full Survival Horror Meal

If you like survival horrors, you are going to like this game, it checks every survival horror game element: scarcity, feeling vulnerable, etc. My only gripe with the game is the lenght of it, I finished the game in 16 hours but I feel like the game could've been a 10 to 12 hours long game and be as good or even better.

What is this

No, really, what is this? I want to play it to the end. To find out. What? Not the graphic, not the performance on my RTX3060 laptop (30 fps), but the story, How does it end? The story I found is not only SF, but surreal. So... What is IT?
