Cronos: The New Dawn is a brutal third-person survival horror where you fight for the future by salvaging the past. Burn monsters before they merge. Extract souls from the living. Adapt or die.

SURVIVE THE FUTURE. SALVAGE THE PAST

Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future.

In the past, you will witness a world in the throes of The Change, a cataclysmic event that forever altered humanity. Meanwhile, in the ravaged wastelands of the future, every moment is a fight for survival against dangerous abominations that will test both your reflexes and your tactical thinking.

You are a Traveler working for the enigmatic Collective, tasked with scouring the wastelands of the future in search of time rifts that will transport you to 1980s-era Poland.

ADAPT OR PERISH

In a desolate world filled with ever-present danger, your survival hinges on your ability to strategize and plan ahead. The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal.

You can manipulate temporal Anomalies to clear a path through the desolate environment, and will have to scavenge for resources to replenish your limited ammo and supplies. Good preparation is key. Once in battle, split-second decisions can mean the difference between life
and death.

DON'T LET THEM MERGE

The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others — through a grotesque process called Merging — to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.

The only way to stop them? Burn their bodies. And do it fast.

If you don’t, you’ll face ever-evolving abominations that will push your combat skills to their limits.

HARVESTER OF SOULS

Your mission is to locate key people from the past who perished in the ensuing apocalypse. Using your all-powerful Harvester, you can extract their Essences and have them accompany you into the future.

But be wary: these essences have a profound impact on your journey.

The more you carry, the more haunted your suit becomes — increasing your prowess on the battlefield but also bringing with them whispers in your ear and flickers into your vision, edging you ever closer to madness.

UNTITLED

Good day, persnickety mfs. You're probably reading this review because you don't want to end up like the other cockroaches who are having a full blown temper tantrum over purchasing this game, thinking it would be Dead Space all over again, or criticising it for being too "hard." Let's get this out of the way. It doesn't run very well. I downloaded a mod for this on Nexus mods and had no problems after. The game's story and setting felt like a unique experience, and I don't say that very often. The entire aesthetic is, really. Just look at the armor of the main character. It's incredibly weird, but in a good way. Lookin like some deep sea diver with a metal pusspuss in the middle. At last, something different than the typical trendy designs. On the topic of characters, I thought the ones in here were excellent. Excellent voice acting, well-done, deliberately placed development and evolution. The consciousness imbued into the suit of armor (you can't really call this a "woman"), comes off as robotic and algorithmic at first. But then, the circuits may develop flesh, so to speak. Actually, I liked the combat in this. It took time to get used to, but it turns out that's a part of playing video games. You have to learn the system and how to work with it if you want to enjoy it. I've seen b*tching about slow movement, unfairness in combat etc. I got no such impression. In fact, I don't remember being bothered even once. Maybe it's because I knew I was playing Cronos and not another game. I can't be entirely sure. The inventory challenge was enjoyable and not to the detriment of the game in my opinion. It turns out you can upgrade your inventory strategically to make it more manageable. I like optimizing and thinking about this sort of thing, but you may not. Whatever. What really gets me with this game is the enemy design and variations. Seriously, with this setting, you can get away with some of the most grotesque, hideous, evil monstrosities. The potentials for diabolical creativity here seem endless. Yet, it felt squandered. I was underwhelmed with the enemy variety and mechanics. They felt a bit like placeholders. They didn't have a lot of character. If you've ever played Saya no Uta, they all pretty much resemble the backdrop of gore surrounding Fuminori while he sits there depressed discussing murder plots with his loli waifu. Maybe hire the equivalent of a newgen H.R. Giger next time. Someone who salivates at the thought of murderous, otherwordly creatures. If this aspect was up to par, I might just have rated it 5 stars. Overall, what can I say. The game held my attention. I actually looked forward to playing it and I wanted to see what would happen. The ending I got seemed kind of unsatisfying and short, but I don't think it ruins the rest of the time I had with the game. This is one that I'd probably play again in the future to get the other ending, if that means anything to you. Cronos is one of the better titles I've played recently. It's not mesmerizing, but it's damn good in my opinion and worth a playthrough.

A fantastic new survival horror game.

Its dark, oppressive, bleak and drips atmosphere from every corner. The story is very interesting and will keep you engaged the whole way through. The combat requires tactical thinking to conserve your limited resources but its not as difficult as I was led to believe. Overall the game is fantastic and I can't wait for more from this new IP. Bloober is on a roll.

Probably the best Survival-Horror 2025

(purchased & played on Steam) This game is such a nice surprise for me. Bloober really stepped up their game (no pun intended) throughout their last releases, and for me, Cronos is even better than the SH2 remake from last year. It ticks all the right boxes for an awesome survival-horror experience for me: * an intriguing setting & engaging story (while somewhat 'cryptic') * great visuals, art- and sound-design * thick atmosphere * resource management and clever level design It does not do anything really new, but it feels like a great mashup of classics of the genre like Dead Space, Resident Evil, and some Silent Hill. While I haven't finished the game yet, I'm more than 10 hours in and so far I basically have no complaints. Even performance is somewhat 'good', although we're dealing with UE5 here again. BIG recommandation from me!
