Costume Quest

This game cannot compare with the genre-leading AAA-class titles, but it's simple, does not have [virtually] any learning curve and is fun. Best played with kids - they enjoy the cool animations and the fact that the game is super simple, and you enjoy oh-so-not-childish remarks that the main characters often produce and show off your strategic genius by helping them in the boss fights. A word of caution, making it run on more recent Win10 version has been a hit-and-miss experience. The game is old - check the forums.

It's a cute and childlike game. Pretty easy for an adult but relaxing to kick back with a controller as the Fall season rolls in. The combat is simple turn-based, with some quick time events to do a bit of extra damage or block extra damage. The Halloween environments are cute, and the jokes are corny. :)

The DLC's ending was a dumb setup for a(n apparently inferior) sequel, the brief pause before battles commence after their introductory cutscene got annoying quicker than it should have. But all in all, a decent game to play at Halloween, especially for those with fond memories of trick-or-treating on the day as kids.

I am not good at most games. This game is relaxing. fast-paced but not challenging. The dialogue is a lot of fun as are the action animations in the fight sequences. A light and breezy Earthbound experience.

Leave it to the folks at Double Fine to make such a fun and exciting, albeit very short, game. Lots of personality to the characters and setting. Quick-time prompts make combat fun without hampering the experience (mastering the button presses definitely gives you an advantage in combat). Highly recommended.
