Description
Convoy is a tactical roguelike-like inspired by Mad Max and FTL in which you cross a wasteland in search of parts for your broken ship.

Presented in pixel art and set in a future post-apocalyptic setting, Convoy is a squad based tactical roguelike-like in its core. You travel with your combat vehicles and convoy across a wasteland to find parts needed to repair your broken spaceship. During your journey you will encounter strangers in randomized scenarios by picking up radio signals.

Depending on the choices you make, signals can either lead to tactical combat, text based dialogue or chance based role-play. Whatever choice you make, you need to keep your convoy and its cargo safe from raiders, privateers and other enemies. Keep upgrading your vehicles, as death is permanent in Convoy.
  • A new take on tactical combat: Combat plays out in real time as a high-speed car chase where you need to position your units and use abilities to maximise their effectiveness.
  • Exploration pays: You will encounter many different radio signals, each with a text based event. What doesn’t kill you may reward you with loot.
  • Fully customizable units: Each unit can be upgraded and outfitted with different weapons and abilities, allowing you to customize them to your needs.
  • A randomized planet: Each play-through features different main and side objectives, events, choices, and different consequences to your actions.
  • A cold war turning hot: Three factions vie for control over the planet, your actions tip the scales of balance making you an enemy to everyone. As each faction grows in strength, you need to keep up.
  • Permadeath at the core: Knowing one wrong move could lead to certain death puts you constantly on edge.

it's MEH compared to FTL

it's MEH compared to FTL honestly. i barely played the game but it just didn't feel nearly as good. i might play it again in the future if i'm extremely bored. but instead i will play other games. currently i'm playing Mass Effect 1 on Steam and i'm loving it! relatively speaking, it's much better than convoy. i know the 2 games are vastly different, however like i said if i want to play a sim/managerial game i'll play FTL (which i still haven't beaten yet).

You MUST be joking.

Normally at a SHOCKING $14.99 this game that looks like an early 2000's flash game on the low quality flash player setting, now on sale at a passive aggressive $3.74, I'm exquisitely humbled. To say that convoy is like mad max would only be true in the sense that max would be mad that he was compared to such a piece of work. To say that convoy is like FTL would only be true in the sense that you will take one look at the graphics (even if you're not highly judgmental of graphics and value gameplay first) and you will want to get away from this at faster than the speed of light. What's a matter yoU? gosh...

What FTL should have been but was not

Convoy was clearly inspired by FTL, but it is a MUCH better game than FTL ever was. All the problems I found with FTL have been addressed in Convoy. So let's say a few things about FTL first. If you played FTL, you should know all its flaws. If you have not played it or thought it had no flaws, you can find my (LONG AND DETAILED) 2-star FTL review on Amazon (the review is entitled - Has potential...). It describes all the real problems with FTL and presents clear and specific game-play examples thereof. One such example would be the fact that you never knew where the stores (supply depots) were - they showed up on the map at random; and if you did not have enough scrap to buy what you wanted when you were at a store, more often than not you were unable to backtrack to that store later when you had enough scrap because the rebel fleet had already taken over the area. Another example is that availability of weapons and upgrades in FTL was completely random and combined with the above-mentioned inability to visit stores at will your success or failure did not depend on you at all. ALL your efforts were at the mercy of random chance and it was quite typical to reach the final boss in Sector 8 with amazing shields and EMP weapons but no weapons actually able to harm the boss. In Convoy you have a clear map of the planet and you can go wherever you want whenever you want. The camps, once discovered, remain on the map, so while in FTL you could never approach your ship's upgrades strategically and had to rely on random chance, in Convoy you can upgrade your vehicles as you want. This is a HUGE improvement over FTL and if you liked FTL you will love Convoy. Combat in Convoy is a lot better than in FTL. Here you have multiple vehicles with different combat roles (if you choose to design specialized vehicles). Before purchasing Convoy on GOG, I watched a few game-play videos on YouTube. I recommend you find Convoy Gameplay - Full Release Version! - Let's Play - Ep 1
