Mankind has finally learned how to explore the outer regions of space using wormhole technology, but Man is not alone in the Void. Two other races are also exploring and exploiting the cosmos for its resources and living space: the Mantis, an insect-like race whose technology relies on large numbers of quick fleets, and the Celaerans, beings of energy cursed by their creators to spend their lives in strange, armored canisters. Expand your fleet, explore your universe, and crush your opponents!
Conquest: Frontier Wars features large-scale fleet battles, intelligent fleet admirals who serve under your command as hero units, and pulse-pounding deep space RTS Sci-Fi gameplay! Manage your supply lines while waging war in multiple maps simultaneously. Don’t let your fleets collapse because as the old maxim states: your fleet is your fate.
Oversee up to 16 interplanetary battle maps at once through the cunning use of wormholes.
Enter a new dimension of strategic possibilities with the supply line management system.
Command up to 6 highly intelligent fleet admirals who implement your orders, assess threats, and react with organized tactics.
The game is one of my favourites, the gameplay and atmosphere by the jingles of the admirals are unreached!
BUT BEWARE you need to have a Windows of 32bit as the game is using 16bit!
If you have a 32 Bit Windows you can enable it by doing the following:

Otherwise, the game only runs in a virtual machine, like VirtualBox!
One of those simple RTS games that only have 3 available races, which makes balancing them off fairly easy task. Aestethically gives off both Star Trek and Starship Troopers kinda vibes. Would recommend if your looking for a quick and relaxing fun, not an overly ambitious gaming endevour.
Haha, in the last mission, if you fail it, the game will wipe out all of your campaign progress forcing you to start the whole campaign from square one. No warning! That is hillarious!
I must begin this review by saying the Gog Games version of CONQUEST : FRONTIER WARS does not work correctly on my Windows 10 PC. However, this review is based on the CD-Rom version of the game I used to own and spent many hours playing.
CONQUEST : FRONTIER WARS is a Sci-Fi RTS game which involves fleets of starships invading planets around the map. These star systems are randomized each time we play to ensure every scenario is unique. Through the use of wormholes we can even move craft to other maps, while a "fog of war" adds to the strategic feel of the unknown.
Using three resource types we build structures around capatured planets, then create and upgrade our fleet of starships. Resources are extremely limited though. Vessels are anything from tiny scouts to huge Fleet Carriers (equipped with their own fighter squadrons) and the gigantic fortress-style Dreadnoughts, so there is a good variety to choose from.
There are three factions to play - Terrans, Mantis and Celareans - each with their own strengths and weaknesses which require different strategies to be successful.
The game concerns itself only with outer space, thus there are no land battles to be had. Even conquering enemy planets only requires a fleet of starships!
Battle animations are smooth and nicely done while the action very rarely slows down, even with lots of things happening and we have zoomed in to see the engagement at close hand in greater detail. Sadly boarding and capaturing enemy ships is not possible and while there is a tally count for "kills", crew do not gain experience or rank, so even veterans gain no combat bonuses over new recruits fresh from the shipyards, which proves highly unrealistic and gives no purpose for keeping our units alive.
Despite these negatives, I did rather enjoy the game and witnessed many RETURN OF THE JEDI style space battles! What a big pity that it no longer works on my PC, though, hence the reduced score.
