Description
Mankind has finally learned how to explore the outer regions of space using wormhole technology, but Man is not alone in the Void. Expand your fleet, explore your universe, and crush your opponents!

Conquest: Frontier Wars features large-scale fleet battles, intelligent fleet admirals who serve under your command as hero units, and pulse-pounding deep space RTS Sci-Fi gameplay! • Enter a new dimension of strategic possibilities with the supply line management system.
  • Command up to 6 highly intelligent fleet admirals who implement your orders, assess threats, and react with organized tactics.

Supply Lines are everything

"Amateurs talk about tactics, but professionals study logistics." - Gen. Robert H. Barrow, USMC (Commandant of the Marine Corps) noted in 1980 "Leaders win through logistics. Vision, sure. Strategy, yes. But when you go to war, you need to have both toilet paper and bullets at the right place at the right time. In other words, you must win through superior logistics." - Tom Peters - Rule #3: Leadership Is Confusing As Hell, Fast Company, March 2001 There is the art of Battle and the Art of war. A battle, any fool can win, a war requires skill in Logistics. Conquest is one fo the few games to introduce the idea of supply lines and thier necessity in a Real time manner. RTS games are often broken down into Simple, explore, , build, kill actions with very little interplay between success and failure as long as you continue to have resources somewhere in the galaxy. In Connquest, the idea of Supply lines and ammo becomes key as you MUST protect your supplies going to the front liens or else see your units destroyed when they run out. Truly a forgotten idea in modern RTS.

One of the best strategy games.

To begin with, I admit that I don't know if GOG's version of the game works on modern Windows, as I have read some problems with it from other reviewers. I played the game around the time it got published and I will write purely about gameplay matters. So, I consider both this game and Haegemonia: Legions of Iron, as the best strategy games I’ve ever played. In Conquest there is a 2D plane where you move your units, both for battle and for gathering resources. The 2D plane makes it easier to control and manage your units, buildings and planets, comparing with space strategies with a 3D plane involved (i.e. Haegemonia or Homeworld games). Unit movement takes place in regions of space which commume with each other via wormholes. So when you have your base, let’s say, in one region you have to be always alert not to be attacked from at least two different directions (from enemies coming through the wormholes). The regions of space themselves are different from each other and with very beautiful pictures of space in the background. Also, there is a good enough story involved. 16 missions to play, but with each subsequent mission, you find yourself that you have more regions of space simultaneously to play, and defeat your opponents, in. But, even though there isn’t a difficulty level choice, the game never gets unfairly difficult.

Still Have The Disc!

I still have this game on disc... Add a little action to your strategy, Great selection of competing races and maps that are just plain fun. Nothing feels (or looks) quite as good as appearing on the enemy side of a wormhole with a righteous fleet armed to the teeth! Stop reading and buy it!!

Starcraft in space!

This is the conflict of three space-faring species. Right from the start you'll get hooked onto the great music (the mantis theme is obviously inspired by Klendathu Drop) and though the visuals are outdated they serve their purpose quite well. You build your bases around planets in small systems connected by wormholes which you can also guard against the incoming threats. You can build starships of various purposes and even stationary gun turrets. The building system is quite complex and deep but easy to understand. You can collect resources not just from the space but also from the planets since you need metals, gas and people to build and operate your stuff. There are many upgrades, too. The great addition to the genre is the commanders which can be sent to any ship and turn it into their command ship which gives more boons. You have to watch out for each ship's supplies, though, as they require rearming from the supply ships which gives the combat a nice new dimension. The story is also great but little bit slow paced, a bit like Starcraft. Other than that the game is well balanced and interesting all the way through. Definitely worth a try.
