After tracking a Soviet landing force bound for Iceland it is time to plan your attack. Do you silently close in to torpedo the landing ships and escape during the resulting chaos? Or strike with long-range missiles but risk counterattack from the enemy escorts? Have you detected them all, could another submarine be out there listening for you? Has the hunter become the hunted? Will you survive the Cold Waters?
Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

I really enjoyed Red Storm Rising by Microprose back in the day. I am really enjoying this title right now. I buy games with the old school rule of getting an hour's worth of enjoyment out of every dollar I spend. I have about 140 hours on it so far. I'm having fun and I'm still playing it. The developer is very responsive and it has a pretty good player community so far. There are plenty of videos on Youtube. If you search for videos of version 1.09e, you can watch some gameplay. If you liked RSR, don't hesitate.
This is not going to be hardcore like Modern Naval Warfare (The reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars as it is a casual sub sim) is going to be like, or Dangerous Waters with the LWAMI mod, but it is still very fun. Watching the enemy subs squirm in their attempts to get rid of the torpedo you have on their tail is quite satisfying, or getting a Kirov kill or better! Good stuff!

Fun and intense game. Completely captures the feel of classic Microprose Red Storm Rising. Happy to say it's more than nostalgia. The cat and mouse, underwater dog fight is genuinely exciting and dangerous.
Casual players can select a lower difficulty level and make more use of the 3D view for tactical advantage, at their own choice. The 3D view compliments the game play well. It is possible to play from that perspective though the game itself really takes place on a tactical map based on sonar data.
The game UI experience lacks a little polish, but is functional enough to enjoy.
I've completed half the single missions and one campaign at the time of writing.
Anyone who enjoyed classic Red Storm Rising and other sub sims would likely enjoy this.
Highly recommended.
This is one of the most ridiculously unbalanced games I have ever played.
It actually does a pretty good job of modeling the player's sensors. Depth, flow noise, thermals, and sensor fields of view all affect your ability to find contacts and obtain an accurate firing solution. Your towed array works better to the sides, you are blind in your baffles, etc. There's even a neat feature where you can match the sound signatures of contacts to improve your tracking.
The problem is, the enemy AI has absolutely none of these concerns. Enemy subs and surface ships detect you very quickly regardless of your speed, use of thermals, etc, and enemy aircraft always know where you are whether or not they drop sonobuoys. Worse, you can't track aircraft or even get a warning of their presence; most of the time your first indication there's an aircraft out there is half a dozen torpedoes or depth charges appearing around you.
As a result, the real game here is to manage your sensors to get firing solutions on whatever you need to kill as quickly as possible, fire your weapons, and run for your life. Stealth and tactics don't make any difference.
This is a real disappointment, especially at this price. Definitely not recommended.
This game has the initial feel and appearance of Atlantic Fleet. However, that is just surface. This game is realtime, not turn based. You command your sub and hear your crewman respond. While the 3D view is awesome and fun, you will often find yourself locked on the map and plotting courses of action. While this is NOT Silent Hunter, it definately has the feel of a subsim as you command your sub and manuever just like in real life. Being a fomer coldwar destroyer sailor from the late '70's and '80's, I am absolutely jazzed to finally have a game of this period that runs well on Windows 10. My only wish is that the developers will soon include more U.S. surface ships, espesially the Spruance class DD's, and hopefully enable command of them and Russian ships and subs. I would gladly pay for an addon that allowed this. Oh, I might also add there is a very nice quick mission builder that allows you to choose your command and opponents. WELL DONE KILLERFISH GAMES!
