What a horrible night to have a curse!

Someone should have warned the Covenant children: “Never read aloud strange rituals.” Little did they know that their childish game would unleash unspeakable horrors upon the unsuspecting world. Now, many years later, Jeremiah Covenant, the last sane sibling, lies on his deathbed knowing his fragile existence is the only thing restraining the curse. His only hope is Patrick Galloway, a fellow soldier from the Great War and a specialist in abolishing evil abominations.

Welcome to Clive Barker’s Undying, a horrifying FPS romp of curses, strange, mad creatures, and family dysfunction gone terribly wrong. Step into the shoes of Patrick Galloway as you attempt to banish the evil using your arcane magic and the ever-dependable six shooter of metal grace. Pray to whatever god you believe in because this journey may end up costing your soul. First person shooter meets the contemporary master of horror fiction, don't miss it!

A memorable horror adventure

A great horror FPS thanks to many things. The gameplay itself is quite simple, but fun: you use weapons and spell. Some spells are offensive and others related to abilities. The game is surprisingly long, and delivers what you would except from this sort of title: vast array of enemies, bosses, a good selection of weapons, many different sites to explore and a quite chilling and surprising storyline. What makes me return to this game once every second year, or so, is the unmatched atmosphere of the entire journey. It can go from creepy, to cosy, to adrenaline raising. Clive Barker's Undying delivers!

Ah, memories...

This is a truly fantastic horror game written by one of the most consistent authors in horror: Clive Barker. The game surprisingly isn't too marred by nostalgia, it still holds up and looks surprisingly good. The story is the real focal point and it's up to Clive's usual standard, but I won't bother going into a detailed synopsis since it's already available. Couldn't recommend this game more, while there are signs of age here and there, it's still the same old classic horror experience. Get this one! It's been a long time coming on Gog.com

I want to like it...

I purchased this game based on it's sterling reputation amongst dedicated gamers. It's a game with a great deal of promise and if a competant developer made a sequel I could see it really living up to it's potential. As of now... I don't find that it does. Pros: - Interesting plot (the notes you find in various locations are interesting, generally well-written and help flesh out the game.) - Some interesting weapon concepts (I love the Tibetan War Cannon. A living metal dragon gun? Sign me up.) - Using both spells and weapons simultaneously is a good idea. - They have a decent amount of different areas. Cons: - Interesting plot... dragged down by extreme campiness and terrible voice acting. The first boss frequently laughs like a saturday morning cartoon villain at the end of her generic threats. Hardly the stuff of great horror. - The combat is mediocre and unpolished at the best of times. There's very little punch to anything. Getting hit sends your camera spinning away from where you should be looking. - Spells and weapons feel weak and inconsitent in their performance. Even your basic revolver can be avoided by enemies when the bullet is in midflight (a lot of the enemies dance around the screen and teleport as well so it hitting them is, again, more frustrating then fun). The Tibetan War Cannon has an terribly implemented arcing feature, almost no range, and half the time I couldn't tell if it was an AOE weapon or not because of how spotty the AOE effect actually was (I've killed two howlers at once with it so I think it's AOE weapon? That never happened again despite similar situations). Shotguns don't feel powerful enough for their low ammo and load time. - The map design isn't good. It's mostly long halls, long mazes, and big empty fields. It doesn't create any interesting tactical situations and it only rarely enhances any kind of scare factor. This might be chocked up to technical limitations but it's still not good. Final verdict: Not good.
