Description
CLARC is an isometric, grid-based puzzle game with fast-paced arcade elements. It features comic style visuals in various different graphical themes, from the inside of a chaotic factory to the surface of Mars to the interior of an intruding enemy spaceship where you think, run, and fight through heaps and heaps of carefully designed puzzle and action areas.

Our hero, Clarc #37, is a simple, hard-working maintenance robot, living in a decaying nuclear missile factory. Ever since the old supercomputer has disappeared, the rest of the facility has fallen into utter chaos. The discovery that diesel has thrilling effects on robotic circuits lead to a fierce shift in priorities: Every robot has since been focusing on drinking instead of working. Everyone except Clarc. So when a less-than-peaceful spaceship enters the stage to disarm and dismantle this out-of-control doomsday device of a partying factory, Clarc is the one to save the day. He has to overcome his programming to rescue his fellow robots and, of course, his newfound friend, the lovely atomic bomb, Clara.

Brilliant mobile game, okay-ish on PC

It is an entertaining little game with challenging but fair puzzles. The characters are cute enough, even though the story turns more sinister later. Checkpoints are plenty. The menu and controls, though, show that this is a PC conversion of a mobile game. Soon you begin to feel the limitations. For a PC game, you might expect more depth, less repetition, and more options to customize keys, graphics settings, sound, et cetera. I bought the game originally for my kid, and the 5-year-old loved the first levels—solid 4 stars. It might have been 5 stars, if the dialogs were voiced, and I hadn't been forced to give my best 3CPO impersonation, reading the dialogs to the little rascal. So, then, why just 3 stars? Well, because all is well UNTIL, a few levels in, the game design takes a sudden turn for the much (frustrating and unfair) worse. What ruins the game halfway are the laser tanks that begin to show up in every other room. These guys practically add a time limit. Meaning that you will have to observe and figure out a puzzle, WHILE constantly trying to outmaneuver enemies that will kill you in one shot and have no range limitation. You die a lot, start over and over and over a lot; Often without getting as much as a good chance to look at the puzzle pieces you are supposed to arrange. And even when you know exactly what to do, knowing and doing are not the same thing. For if you get unlucky, or hesitate for a second, or fail to button-mash your way through some passages, those tanks may still corner and kill you with one lucky shot at any time. Combine that with the fact that this is a port of a mobile game with somewhat awkward PC keyboard controls, and you may understand why I cannot, in good conscience, give this game more than 3 stars.

Childhood Puzzle Game

Ive always loved this game as a kid and played it on the OUYA. Just found out there was a PC version and since I now play on PC, I knew I had to get it. It is 100% worth $8. Best puzzle game. I do wish there was a level editor in the game though.

Looks great, fun, but controller issues

This game is beautiful to look at and quite fun to play, I've enjoyed the first two levels. However on Linux it doesn't set up the controller correctly: A and Y appear to do the same thing; direction changing uses right and down on the D-pad rather than the right analogue stick as indicated on the diagram which pops up. Still possible to play it, the action puzzles are a little awkward but still possible so far, and for the sale price still good value for money.

Excellent maze puzzle with both thinking and action

(Review not based on GOG version, although they seem identical) TL;DR: amazing maze puzzle with cool graphics and superb gameplay. Recommended to any puzzle or maze puzzle lovers. I have finished Clarc, and it's from the very beginning an excellent game in so many aspects. It looks like the typical maze puzzle game, where you have to move around and solve puzzles placing objects here and there. It includes action puzzles too, so in the most complex puzzles, you don't only need to know what to do, but discover the right sequence of actions and the pace at which to do them. The 'typical' doesn't mean this is your average puzzle. The gameplay is really great, and it's difficult curve is very well made. The mechanics are almost always simple: Clarc can lift and move objects, activate buttons on the floor, or leave objects over those buttons. There are hazards like lasers, different enemies with different behaviour, and the objects are various kind of boxes which block lasers, or not, or change their direction. There are more elements, gradually introduced into the puzzles. The puzzles themselves are always nice, and even the hard ones, which might take on your frustration for a while, are never too much and perfectly doable with some patience. Patience to discover what is needed to do, or maybe how it has to be done, or in the case of tankbots, dodging and trying your best. While it's really square based, and it could have been presented from a top-down perspective, it's full 3D, and not isometric as some might think from the static screenshots. And the visuals are very pretty and elegant in their deceiving simplicity. The music is sometimes good, sometimes not so good, but the sounds are nice. Storywise it's your usual cup of tea, with some twists and comedy moments. In brief, if you like any kind of puzzle games, Clarc has a nice mixture of thinking and action that will please fans of either thinking puzzles or action puzzles, with great graphics and ambience.

You get what year it is, right?

I can't believe the only option for audio is "Sound off". I understand that you worked hard on your soundtrack and you are super-proud of it but not everyone *wants* that with their gaming. I find it mind-blowing that you fail to include any option to turn it off. Really cute game and well implemented but force-feeding music on a paying customer costs you three stars.
