Great game with a sense of humour. Game-play is enjoyable and the story and soundtrack hit all the right notes.
Doesn't have any real replay value unfortunately, but the fact that it made my jaded heart want to play it twice says a lot.
So excited about this game. I've completed the first Season, and am working through the 2nd. It is so very reminiscent of the Power Rangers I grew up with. It's corny, yes, but so were the Power Rangers I grew up with. There are many awesome thing's about this game:
It's pixel graphics people! If you're looking for a realistic looking game, this is not your game. If you want to see old-style graphics doing their magic as they did in the old days, you'll love it!
Its class style and crafting system are surprisingly detailed. The strengths and weaknesses you have to work around make it more fun.
I could go on, but let me mention the few (very few) things that bug me about this game (and i think other reviewers have already touched on them):
When buying from the store you can't see what your characters already have equipped, just how that weapon would affect their base stats. That's frustrating, because you might buy a weapon that you don't really need.
I wish the Mecha options were more detailed and customize-able, but I can live with what they have as it just looks awesome.
Even with these options the game is a solid 4 Star game. It's definitely worth your time, especially if you are able to catch it on sale like I did!
I was enjoying the game but it quickly got repetative, at first I was quite enthralled by the Power Rangers themed story and the angle of looking at it as a TV show and producing your own. But the story comes off very disjointed and even seems preachy at times for seemingly no reason, it seemed very out of place in a game that at first comes off as 'carefree, roll with it power rangers fun'.
There were a few problems with dialogue instantly skipping despite no hands on keyboard or mouse and attempts to re-view this dialogue left me repeating entire episodes to no avail. The mechanics and game play make for some decent fun but the tactics, as far as I got, were quite repetative and quickly got boring. There is an interesting layer of customization, but the episodes can be quite bland and sometimes a bit preachy which was a big roleplay and pace breaker for me.
bug near the end has finished me, not doing that level for the third time, (others on youtube have been hit by this bug) not the first level I've had to restart because of bugs, quite short and linear on rails, doesn't really need much in the way of decision making... not worth the sale price..... maybe their first game will always be their best.... pity....
You can't unequip items, only replace them, so it can be annoying or impossible to switch items between team members.
There are some minor load issues, usually it does not go smoothly but its nothing game-breaking.
The old-timey tv screen effect transition is rather annoying.
There are still some graphic problems, like white movement indicating squares staying on the screen after you've moved or after a enemy attack. Again not game-breaking just annoying.
The writing and story are, meh... Not terrible but just meh.
The biggest problem I have with the game is not being able to just make the team look the way I want to, items are unlocked gradually and grant important stat increases, different members need different stats so you can't really make the team look uniform or take the items you want. There is also little income so most of the time your team looks like a patchwork of items. These are not problems for the RPG side, forcing you to make good decisions.
