FUCK READ DEAD.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger it is one of the best western games, it's a mix bag of shooter more like doom, BLACK with rpg elements and the duls 1vs1 are very good, much better that those in read dead.
Gunslinger it's a great game and the port for GOG is really good, some bug and issue here and there, but it's very well.
Word of warning, Ubisoft seems to be the publisher of this game, regardless of what the store page says. However, you don't need their rubbish software to play it.
Call of Juarez Gunslinger takes us back to the wild west following the steps of Silas Greaves, mighty bounty hunter. Along the way you'll encounter the classic legends such as the Dalton brothers, Jesse James, Yves Guillemot... You know, all those filthy, good-for-nothing scoundrels that were leeching off hard-working citizens and were later on romanticised by Hollywood and shills.
While this is not a quadruple... *dramatic pause*... no, quintuple-A quality video game, it's fantastic and I absolutely recommend it. The gameplay is fun, the narration's got a pinch of humour, and it's got some truly challenging fights. There are 3 game modes: Story, Arcade, and Duels. Story is self-explanatory; it has replay value, as you can upgrade your skills with XP and change your playstyle. Arcade is about shoot, shoot, shoot and trying to max on points by chaining as many kills as you can. Last, but not least, duels will give you 5 lives and you need to get through a series of duels and get the highest score... Of course, "AAA" will be the top scoring player everywhere.
Something I'd really like to highlight about CoJ:G is the fact that you can find what they call "nuggets of truth" with the real stories or known facts about these characters and other miscellaneous aspects of the old west. This is a really neat feature, as at least the ones I found tend to stick to facts and present them to the player - no lecturing or politicised discourse.
As the one negative point, I want to bring up that the story telling sometimes interferes with the player. If I'm fighting a bunch of enemies and in the meantime the narrator and other characters are talking, either I'm going to listen to the story and mess up the gunfight, or I'll focus on the fight and not really pay attention to whatever they're talking about. 9/10
Own it on PC elsewhere. Played PC in the 90s and early 2000's enjoying the FPS and RTS heyday. I still have always been mostly a console gamer, but with owning a more modern gaming PC in the last couple of years I like going back and playing PS3 era games on my PC. This is another one that runs great. I get 165FPS at 1440p with an RX580 8gb.
The game is straight arcade run and gun with unique storytelling and humor. Sale price is the sweet spot as it's only about 3 1/2 to 4 hours long. Though with achievements and higher difficulties you will get more out of it.
I own this on Steam, so IDK if GOG has proper controller support, but with a dualshock-4/pro this game is seriously one'a the best first person shooter games out there... on Steam We can compete for times/scores on leaderboards with Our' friends, if GOG has this function too it adds to the replay value... My ONLY complaint with this game is having to run around the levels to find ammo for Your' weapons, or just sticking to handguns, & picking up ammo from the dead bodies during speedruns are VERY different experiences, & frankly I "ENJOY" good video games, & part of that enjoyment for Me is NOT rushing through speed runs, so I guess it depends on the player, but either way is doable. The controls, sound, graphics, etc. are awesome (MUCH better then the other two call of juarez games), & it runs slick as snot on'a mediokre to good gaming rig maxed out. So ignore the kids negative reviews, they OBVIOUSLY aren't shooter game fans, or need to "git gud" (sorry I had to say it).
If you like first person shooters, this is a must have. I love the old west setting, It's somewhat of a historical game too (and I love history), although the details may or may not be accurate. Who cares? Fight alongside with, and later against, some of the most infamous outlaws of the old west. The graphics are really good considering it's age, and the control setup makes the game easy to play.. The skills are, for the most part, very good. The Nuggets of Truth give you an insight to historical people and places. The way the story is presented is unique and very cool. It is told by a retired bounty hunter, and you are playing out his younger years. There are three modes of play ... Story (aka the campaign), Arcade, and Dueling (haven't played the latter two yet). Two awesome features are Concentration (which gives you extra time to aim more precisely) and Sense of Death (which slows down time to almost a stop so you can dodge an otherwise fatal bullet). If you die (and you will), you can just continue from there. You can also load the last checkpoint, or restart the current mission from the beginning. Sometimes, enemies are hard to spot, but if you take a hit, the marks on the screen tell you at least the direction the shot came from. The devs really put a lot of thought into this game. Although I have not finished the game yet, I have encountered no bugs, no lockups, no problems. Just loads of fun.
