Description

Call of Cthulhu, the official videogame inspired by Chaosium's classic pen and paper RPG, brings you deep into a world of creeping madness and shrouded Old Gods within Lovecraft's iconic universe.

1924. Private Investigator Pierce is sent to look into the tragic death of the Hawkins family on the isolated Darkwater Island. Soon enough, Pierce is pulled into a terrifying world of conspiracies, cultists, and cosmic horrors.

Nothing is as it seems. Sanity is an irregular bedfellow, all too often replaced by whisperings in the dark. Strange creatures, weird science, and sinister cults dominate the Cthulhu Mythos, intent on realizing their mad schemes to bring about the end of everything.

Your mind will suffer - between sanity and psychosis, your senses will be disrupted until you question the reality of everything around you. Trust no one. Slinking shadows hide lurking figures… and all the while, the Great Dreamer prepares for his awakening.

Good visuals and story, poor game

I like the visuals, and the story, but the way the game is executed is spoiling most of the fun. More of an interactive movie than an actual game, really. Often you have no idea what your choices do. Most of the time they are unimportant. I got through the whole thing and didn't get answers to the questions the plot raised (how is one of the characters dying early on and then living again? wtf?) I was left with an insuffeciancy and not a good one. I cannot recommend this game as a good experience. I'm disappointed.

Ambitious but misses badly

I really, really wanted to like this one but there was so much getting in the way of that. Weird dialogue carried by even weirder voice acting. Glacial, over-stuffed plot. Tabletop RPG bits that do nothing except *remove* parts of your investigation. A system of choices that, by the end, practically begs you to spoil the game by looking up a wiki so you can make sense of it. If you're really a diehard of Lovecraft or the many, many, many cursed IP's derived from his work, try it out on deep sale. Otherwise, just play The Sinking City instead.

a joke

a joke compared to Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of The Earth I was kinda looking forward to this game, but it has no soul and is boring. I have played much worse games than this. But compared to Dark Corners of The Earth this is absolutely embarrassing. Buy that instead!

Five Promising Prototypes

You have to understand something when playing this one. As a cohesive whole... it's neither cohesive, nor whole. However, as a series of promising tech demos of what a good Call of Cthulhu game could be, you might get something out of it. You get to see it as an adventure game, an RPG, a stealth game, a walking sim, and even a (and I'm being very generous with this genre classification) first-person shooter. Yet none of these truly amount to a larger experience. It will be over before your know it, and you'll still not quite be sure what the point of it all was. Cyanide make good games. This isn't one of them, sadly.

Better story than gameplay

Lets get the bad out of the way first - the RPG system skills are kinda useless and only affect dialogue options. You get so no indication WHICH dialogue option ends the conversation, so keep that in mind. There is no combat whatsover and the sneak segments are not that good. What the games DOES good is the atmosphere - the characters, the terror of the unknown, the madness, the slow realisation of the hopelessness of manking. If you want more combat oriented game - The Sinking City or Dark Corners of the Earth are a better choise.
