A remarkable adventure!

This is a video game that I have played twice on GOG. I like to explore and try to unravel the secrets of a video game. In the case of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons I wanted to play it again for two reasons. The first reason, the story is wonderful. The graphics and sounds are superb. The control, although a bit strange, doesn't take long to get used to. All in all, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is one of those gems of video games that is very well thought out and developed in broad strokes. Although there are a few clichés in the story that are very common in contemporary storytelling, it doesn't lose the charm of this touching story. The second reason, I wanted to get the game's achievements, but it seems that they are disabled on GOG or I have done something wrong to get them. Anyway, the story, the narrative, the graphics, the sound, the music, the control, etc., is enough to leave any gamer satisfied. Totally recommended.

Short, easy, beautiful

The game has a unique contol scheme but once you learn it, it's pretty easy and is generally one of the selling points. The story is linear, but you can make slight detours, or stops, rather. It has nice graphics and design, good music, okay sound and I've met maybe one or two bugs during the whole time I played it - nothing game-breaking, though. I usually hate made up speech-sounds that seems to be ever present in games nowadays, but here it's actually okay. The whole thing is very short, maybe three-four hours, if you are taking your time, but that's not a problem. The story includes (a lot) cliches but it's not like anybody expects them not to be there what with the name and everything and they generally work the way they are supposed to. It's nice how some things in the story hint at what's going to happen next, actually, like with the girl (spoiler averted :). This is probably one of the best recent games I played (yes, 2013 is recent for me).

Amazing but really short and too easy

The game has wanderfull mechanics, astounding visuals and very touching plot. But I finished it in just a few hours and it feels like a big shame.

Touching finish of a wonderful game

Pros + beautiful graphics + perfect level-design and stunning world's settings with completely unexpected twists from sunny pastoral villages and cheerful moments to scenes of a disaster and misery + simple controls + pleasant music and environmental sounds Cons - short story ( 3hours to play), though it has a sense of completeness - puzzles are easy - controls are actually not comfortable to play the game in a co-op, it is a single player game first of all I really liked this game. It is not a chef-d'oeuvre to mark it with 5 stars but it is definitely a good game worth to play.

Beautiful and Unneededly Heartwrenching

Brothers is a game mainly based one gameplay mechanic. You alone play as both siblings. Objectively, it's a relatively unique mechanic, only seen on rare occasion in the likes of "The Adventures of Cookie and Cream." This original and fun twist is what the game is riding on most of the time, and it does succeed. In my personal opinion, it would have been even better with at least the option to play co-op, because much like Josef Fares other video game, the EA Original "A Way Out," it would be a fun and trust-building experience, but the game still does well as is. Brothers other strong point is it's sweet and sorrowful- albeit unoriginal- story. The two brothers must go on a journey to save their ill father, and the only known cure is the water from the Tree of Life. It's simple and inspiring, and leads to an epic journey, which I might add is brilliantly told with no actual dialogue. The characters speak but their language is a fantasy one and they mainly use body language. It was interesting and fun to learn to understand them as the game goes on. Many people have complained that the game is too short, but in my opinion it is well-paced and long enough for the small price. In short, if you haven't had the experience yet, I highly recommend it. But every game has its drawbacks, and this one's is definitely the ending. I've seen someone here say that it ended on a high-note, which baffled me. I won't give any spoilers, but the game's ending it ruthlessly and completely unnecessarily heartbreaking. A horrible tragedy occurs, and ultimately it's caused by a silly mistake and accomplishes absolutely nothing. Don't get me wrong, I love a sad story told right, but I didn't see the point in this and that upset me greatly. I guess I should've seen the signs. It's a telling point of Josef Fares stories to force an unnecessary and cruel ending on his players. I still recommend it, but be prepared for a harsh ending.
