Got the game from the giveaway, but within 10 minutes of playing I feel compelled to throw money at the developers.
I wasn't expecting anything from the game. I got everything! It ticks nearly all the boxes. The music is fantastic; the combat..., weapon ballistics is amazing, and FEELS realistic. When you fire a 40 mil cannon into a house, it punches through it and explodes on the neighbouring one.
Every single object in the environment has penetration values, so when you're firing your weapons you will feel completely immersed in the action. The impact of your weapons reflect your expectations, and it feels so good.
Did I mention lore? You know it's is a labor of love when there's a fully fledged lore tab. Overall, the writing is tasteful, immersing, and thankfully not pretentious at all.
What a beaut
If you've ever wanted your own Killdozer simulator, this is it. Set in a sort of cyberpunk atmosphere, you carry out contracts as a variety of mecha to earn cash to unlock more pilots, mechs, and loadout equipment. I've only ever played the up-armored edition, but it's solid and lots of fun. There is no reason not to add this to your game library!
This game is simply awesome.
- There are a ton of vehicles, pilots, and weapons to choose from.
- The campaign is varied and it forces you to try new tactics and use new vehicles or weapons.
- It has a freelance mode to play any time you want.
- The music is awesome.
- The artwork is awesome.
- It never gets old.
- It will have you screaming and cursing when you do something stupid and get yourself blown up. It will have you laughing and cheering when you get some new awesome vehicle or weapons and lay waste to everything or zip in and out taking down enemies that grossly outnumber and dwarf you in size. It will have you sneaking carefully through neighborhoods and ploughing through trains in a railyard. It's simply awesome.
The 1980s inflected synthwave music on the menu screen was an auspicious start, this wonderfully atmospheric soundtrack permeates the game and is the perfect accompaniment to the beautifully realised 2D art.
Mastering the movement and combat controls is part of what makes Brigador so compelling. You will notice your competency improving through your baptism of fire. If you're in any way a seasoned PC gamer, this should not be an issue at all. Relish the challenge, too few games offer it in this way.
Even when using one of the more robust and powerful units, flanking enemies, creating chokepoints, using distractions to lure enemies into ambushes and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your chosen hardware and weapons are all vital in order to achieve victory.
The destructible environment allows for a great degree of improvisation, forward thinking is important but all is not lost should you be caught on the backfoot; going toe to toe and winning is possible, providing you're good enough and employ some creativity.
Should the player be intrigued to know more about the factions vying for Solo Nobre, as well as the units they're likely to encounter and the locales in which they'll be fought, 'Intel' is available for the curious mercenary to purchase in the 'Acquisitions' section of the menu, paid for with the spoils of battle. Well written and a joy to read, these 'reports' are a clever way of unobtrusively imparting the story.
I've completed the initial campaign, however each mission can be replayed with a number of different units, each demanding a different play style to the other, with the chance to improve upon past performances and winning a more substantial bounty in the process. Then there's the 'Freelance' mode (which I haven't even touched yet) promising an expanded arsenal, pilots and missions for purchase. A generous offering, indeed.
Astonishingly well made and tremendous fun; Brigador is undoubtedly a future classic.
Got this game for free, which might be why I'm rating this so high, still...
When I downloaded it I tought I would just be launching it to see if it worked, saw the "tactical" description, tought this was one of those weird light rts which people play mostly on the net that I've never tried...Well, it wasn't like that at all but I played quite a few quick games since I got it.
Actually it's a damnably fun little shooter, hadn't had this much fun with a little mindless game since "peggle 2". Of course the neon and action make it impossible to relax while playing, but the fact is I can play it when I don't want to concentrate (I mostly game in wargames and 4x types). Not recommended for those with epilepsie but a damnably fun little shooter.
