Bombshell is an Action Shooter game in which bomb disposal technician turned mercenary for hire, Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison must strong-arm her way across 4 planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galactic adventure to rescue the president (and humanity) from an apocalyptic alien threat. With out-of-this-world enemies, a never-before-seen arsenal of devastating weaponry, and a host of genre-crossing mechanics -- Bombshell is set to blow you away!
History in the breaking - Be part of Bombshell's debut as she fights to save the president and her people from a maniac's mechanical monstrosity
Brave New Worlds - Traverse the dying world of Kyron as it's consumed by its neighboring sun, discover the secrets of a civilization frozen in time on the distant world of Zeroth and travel to the epitome of technology - a villain's vision which threatens to consume all that exists
Robot-armed and Dangerous - Shell, shock and shatter your way through vicious, bloodthirsty predators, an augmented alien species, and the remanants of an ancient race re-animated, with more than 10 weaponized arm modifications
Heavy Handed - Fierce finishing moves and interactive environments make Bombshell as dynamic as she is deadly
Isometric Ingenuity - Brilliantly brutal isometric shooting layered with classic role-playing mechanics, including experience points, upgrades, side quests, and non-linear levels. All with a twist of first-person shooter mechanics.
Some time ago names as Interceptor and 3D Realms had meaning behind them. Interesting polished gameplay and fun "dialogs" - all that and more you wil absolutely not meet here. Controls are garbage. Camera sometimes zooms and sometimes doesn't until you restart the game. Same with weapon glitches - well, it is almost 10 years since game release and not only you have great chance to stuck in geometry but also half of your weapons' altfire work from time to time. And it is not like it is blocked by game scripting because after level reload they work sometimes.
Don't waste your money and if you somehow got this game for free - your time. It's not worth any of that.
I kind of liked it...but the bugs!
Your heroine is a badass Duchess Nukem out for alien blood, the story itself is pointless like in most action games.
The game is an isometric 3D shooter, absolutely nothing new to write home about. You kill enemies, collect loot, gain XP & levels. Playable with a gamepad or with keyboard & mouse. I used the latter, it worked relatively well.
A solid 3-4 star game...except for the bugs and the console saving system. Having to redo areas when you get stuck or weapons don't work is exceptionally unmotivating. It's still quite fun to play, but it's too old to get the patches it needs.
If you want it, wait for a hefty discount.
Bombshell is a game I want to enjoy. Environments are visually interesting. There is some fun weaponery. There are fun "parts" that we've seen in other games (isometric view, collection, side quests, exp). It's clear there is love in the project, but unfortunately it sometimes feels like the game wants the player to dislike it, technically and mechanically.
Aiming is poor. Very little/wonky lock-on during fast player and enemy movement, meaning you'll miss more than you'll hit. There is actually a "weight" behind Bombshell, so a lot of actions have a delay. And other weird things, like the shotgun fires from Bombshell's actual hand instead of player model, meaning if enemies get real close all those shots won't connect. Also gamepad support feels way worse than k+m, instead of better with extra aim assist.
Levels are large, leading to a lot of walking around and fighting respawning enemies. Very few encounters feel designed, because most encounters sort of happen. Sometimes during elevators enemies spawn next to you with no lead up time. Because of the aim issues already stated, the player depletes ammo for good guns all the time, leading to backtracking for ammo on the ground. There's also some slight platforming for some reason.
The camera is downright bad whenever traveling to the bottom of the screen. Top left and right are fine, but still enemies will hit you before you see them, and because of the aiming, you'll probably not be hitting them.
Technically, I still get frozen black screens from time to time. When I start the game I have to check my resolution, as it changes on its own. Instructions will continue using keyboard options even when playing with a gamepad.
It feels like this should be a fast-paced third-person shooter given the accuracy needed to hit enemies, but we get bad feeling isometric shooter. Bombshell is a cool character, the enivronments are great to look at, and there is a lot of potential, but the game isn't there. Buy on sale only
I am not good in English so I will be short. In two words: heavily bugged.
Playing this game I had encountered more than a dozen different glitches. Seriously. Bugged input, bugged loot, bugged enemy AI, bugged quests, bugged physics, bugged graphics. Well... not constantly, but routinely. You'll be falling through a floor, be stucked in walls and furniture, die because of lagging controls...
BTW, do you know what's your biggest enemy? Reload from checkpoint. If you do this, you're practically doomed. Once or twice it went without any problems. All other attempts caused glitches to happed 10 times more often. So if you die, be prepared to start the level anew.
There's more problems, of course. A silly story, completely unbalansed weapons, mediocre gameplay, etc. But technical problems were worst than all of those.
Conclusion: the game has its potential. Too bad it does not have anything else.
For first minutes of play - game looks nice. Good graphic, sounds (except voices), items, weapons.
But as far I play - my feelings gets worse. I have medium hardware, but game lagging. Even dropping settings didn't helped much. But worst thing is how camera works on later levels, and how character responding to mouse and keyboard.
No, game should be much more polished in control, before put into a store.
