Description

For the price of BloodRayne 2: Terminal Cut, the original version of BloodRayne 2 is also added to your GOG library.

BloodRayne 2: Terminal Cut Ultimate Update
Rayne returns to her updated second adventure. In addition to language and sound improvements, this patch introduces a rebalanced boss fight with Ephemera in the Twisted Garden to better match the experience players remember from the console version.
Update Features
  • Ephemera boss fight rebalanced
  • Restoration of missing music and audio tracks
  • Improved graphical fidelity for bonus materials
  • Russian language localization improvements
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes

Enhanced and updated for modern systems by the game's original developers, this is the definitive edition of BloodRayne 2.

BloodRayne is a dhampir, born from the unnatural union of vampire and human. Blessed with the powers of a vampire but cursed with the unquenchable thirst for blood and a weakness to sunlight, Rayne is challenged with her most personal battle yet as she hunts down her siblings. They have banded together and pledged to carry on their father's legacy of creating a new era of vampire supremacy where humans are mere cattle.

With new acrobatic movements and rail sliding, fast-paced blade and gun combat, fatal finishing moves, more dhampir powers like time control, and an extensive combo system, BloodRayne 2 is a brutally satisfying continuation of the iconic series.

Features and enhancements of the Terminal Cut edition, created by the game’s original development team:

Support for higher display resolutions (up to 4K / 3840x2160).
  • Upscaled cinematic videos
  • Support for modern gamepads (XInput)
  • Improved rendering with up to 4x anti-aliasing
  • Improved lighting with higher resolution light maps
  • Support for higher texture resolutions, allowing for use of uncompressed original textures
  • Improvements to visual effects and reflections

a good update of a game from early 2000

wow.. Times flies ! I was playing with my PS2 and my xbox (hum.. xbox classic for the youngsters...) and bam.. it's 2020. But why do we have nowadays , "remastered" PC versions of video games from the early 2000 ? Easy : - graphical engine were.... hum difficult to master... Sometimes you had a better visual result with ... consoles - most of the PC players, back in the days used to play with... keyboard and mouse. So, we have here , classical action / platform game, with a sexy hero (lara croft launched this passion for female hero...). nothing very subtle here : It's a gory, it's repetitive, but.... it's rather fun, when you want deal with a hard day of work. This "remastered" version works "out of the box" with our modern windows 10 PC. So the work of Ziggurat interactive is done for me, here. I also urge you to play with a controller, since this game was made for the PS2 or the xbox in mind.

Not as good as the first entry.

I wish I could like this one more but its not there for me at the time of this review. The game looks nicer, the vibes are still there. and Rayne is still awesome but I find the combat this time around to be nothing but frustration. Could just be because I'm playing with mouse and keyboard but it just doesn't function well. I barely feel like I'm hitting anything when I attack and the lock on camera thing doesn't work super well either. I can't block much of anything consistently and I don't like the repeated use of infinitely spawning enemies that you have to kill in specific ways to progress, for example, the bit in the beginning where you have to fling goons into a compactor truck of sorts until it decides it's had too much and explodes. I much prefer the combat in the first game. Sure, it's like Nocturne where it auto aims for you and you kinda just swing your limbs around hacking and slashing but to me it feels significantly better than the clunky lock on. (also find a way to re-release Nocturne pls) I like the newer graphics and animations. There are super cool things you can do like suck a dude dry and then do a finishing move on them and hack them to bits. I like that you can use your blades when you grind on rails and you just slice through goobers like a hot knife through butter. That stuff is super dope. It could be because I suck or whatever as well but this is just like, my opinion, man and I want to finish this game some day but at the writing of this review I'm only a handful of hours in and I'm currently stuck on a fight where I instantly get melted regardless of how many powers I use and I'm frustrated like all hell. So for now, this game goes on the back burner and I have to find another game to satisfy my vampire power fantasies. 3/5.

Ultrawide fail

The game offers ultrawide resolutions but it becomes completely unplayable because the camera just zooms in rather than zooming out, so you only see half the normal screen.

Overambitious and unrefined gameplay

Honestly, the gameplay is almost awful and don't let others tell you otherwise; they probably have their nostalgia glasses on. Rayne i overall slower moving, has unresponsive feeding grapple if you're too close to an enemy, the target lock is basically a deathtrap as enemies will frequently attack you from every angle ruthlessly (it doesn't help that the target lock will sometimes not lock onto whatever you need it to) and even common enemies will take chunks out of you in seconds if you're not too careful. The game also removed the difficulty option for some nonsensical reason and implemented needlessly complex combos which I never bothered to learn (like hold ctrl, space and mouse 1). Everything feels very floaty and clunky in all of the most unusual of places and it's left me wondering why they tried fixing what wasn't broken in the first game (which in a funny twist of things actually broke a lot of aspects of the gameplay). Now with all of that said, the game isn't necessarily unplayable, most of the time anyways. Bloodrayne 2 is hard as nails but it is almost purely because of the half-broken controls. Trust me when I say there is no shame in falling back on cheat codes for some of the more difficult segments (they put cheats in the game for a reason, I suspect) and you may need to look up a hint or two for a couple of the end bosses. Because of all of these reasons, I only recommend this game for masochist gamers and fans of Bloodrayne, the latter camp I fall under.

Oh look, more strip tease..!

...Except now there's not even stripping involved. Somehow, BloodRayne 2 manages to be both flashier and duller than its predecessor. Yes, the graphics are improved, yes, the dismemberment physics are juicier, and yes, Rayne now moves like she moonlights at Cirque du Soleil. But behind all the acrobatics and jiggle physics lies the same shallow, clunky combat — only now slower, heavier, and even more tedious. They spent four years polishing the surface, but never fixed the rot underneath. Guns are gone, mobility is worse, and the stylish violence now feels like choreographed filler between bloodsucking QTEs. And honestly? I can’t even say the gameplay is better than the first game. That one, despite its jank and slapped-together design, at least let you zip around like a pinball on steroids and indulge in some mindless arcade fun. The sequel just slaps glitter on top while gutting your momentum with weighty, over-animated moves that make combat feel worse to play. It’s not even a good power fantasy anymore. Just a long, awkward tease that never delivers. Do yourself a favour — skip the grind and watch a Let’s Play instead.
