Description
BIOMUTANT® is an open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG, with a unique martial arts styled combat system allowing you to mix melee, shooting and mutant ability action.

A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided. Explore a world in turmoil and define its fate – will you be its saviour or lead it to an even darker destiny?

Key Features:
  • A NEW TAKE ON 3rd PERSON COMBAT
The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee and powers from your mutations. Learning new Wung-Fu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.

  • EVOLVE YOUR GAME-PLAY
You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to mutations like the Turtleform and Mucus Bubble, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.

  • NEXT LEVEL OF CRAFTING
You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash and crush weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton - the scrap-toy sidekick!

  • GEAR UP FOR ADVENTURE
You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.

  • SURVIVE IN A VIBRANT OPEN WORLD
You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.

  • AN UNUSUAL STORY WITH AN UNUSUAL END
Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided, in need of someone strong enough to unite them or bring them all down...
You are guided through the world by a Storyteller that narrates every step of your journey, but it’s your actions and choices that’ll decide how your story of survival ends.

Shallow story, ok technically-wise

Good news for my fellow Linux users - the game works well on Linux. Despite a few freezes and crashes, I was able to properly play for several hours straight without interruption. What I liked: - Good save system. Even when it crashes, you are losing 1-5 minutes of gameplay. - Fights. I used all types of weapons all the time and that kept it fun, but it definitly can get boring, especially because psi powers and guns are just so OP. - Sights. It looks ok. What I hated: - Lectures. The game is one large bizarre pro vegan anti corporate propaganda. Even before the main menu loads it starts lecturing you on how corporations killed the planet. One of the main bosses is referred to as Meat Eater. He has to be killed because he eats meat. Apperantly only herbover animals evolved after the apocalipse, except for that one meat eater who must be killed. - Narrator. This is the worst part of the game (even after you set it to 0) It either talks to you like to a toddler or it comments how some specific area was destroyed by the EvilCorp: "They made explosives here. Until it blew up in their faces!". - Fetch quests. You keep getting quests that force you to travel 2500 meters somewhere, then press 1 button a few times or talk to 1 NPC, then go to a different direction 1500 meters, press 1 button again and then backtrack. - Bugs. Even though for the most part I didn't come across any really bad bugs, the game reset all my resistances to 0 after I built them up to 60-80%. I also sometimes randomly got exp while just standing around and doing nothing. - Puzzles. They are at a level that only children 3-5 will find them interesting. You are pretty much only matching 2 colors to each other in all puzzles. - Extreme morality. You are either Jesus or you are going around murdering cute little furry animals for fun. In addition it doesn't matter which path you chose, you still get the same ending. - Awful dialog. There is no voice acting, which makes every dialog slow and painful.

Fable-Kazooie in the open world.

Having finished my first playthrough (about 55 hours), I feel confident to finally write a review. As of Version 1.3.0, there's still a few bugs around, mostly sidequests not progressing or clearing properly from the log. Nothing gamebreaking and will likely be fixed before long. It runs well enough on my aging hardware. This is an open world game, with light RPG progression and various unlockable mounts. Combat uses mechanics vaguely similar to the Devil May Cry franchise, but much simplified - you get special moves for all weapons (including unarmed combat) and can seamlessly mix between shooting and melee. Turning up the SFX helped a lot to make things feel more punchy, and with a bit of tinkering with the (rather nice) crafting system, enemies can be knocked around quite satisfyingly. The game world, along with the Narrator, can best be described as a whimsical kung-fu post apocalypse, emphasis on "whimsical". This is a post-human world, where furry sentient critters describe stuff using weird names. I found it endearing. It obviously irritated some other people to the point where they typed very angry reviews. The Narrator is an avuncular figure that dispenses (imperfect) knowledge from the past, dad jokes and Confucian wisdom in equal measure. He can be turned off as well. Storywise, it's a story about trying to avenge the murder of your parents and saving the world, both accomplished through nicely choreographed boss fights with lengthy buildups. There's a lot of sidequests that unlock vendors, mounts, loot and quirky items, most found organically by exploring the world. The vibe of the game is entirely wholesome, like aforementioned games from sim pler times. There's no moral grey areas, no edgy content beyond "pollution is bad, mkay" (and seriously, that is about as arguable as "water is wet"), no blood and guts and no squalor. And as opposed to a certain other post apocalyptic franchise, the roofs have no holes and the communities are kept neat.

Complicated FUN

I love playing open world sandbox where exploring every nook and crany is always rewarded and the crafting is very satisfactory although expensive, the puzzles are simple yet com[licated, but I am having a lot of fun playing it

Slow start

I am going to say that at the beginning of the game, it had too many tutorials and the story has too many handheld go here do this moments, but around level 4-5 which is 1-2 hours of the game, it clicks you can see the game for what it is and if you try combinations in the combat it becomes so rewarding. PS: Disable Dinamic Resolution and Vsync to improve performance, setup the FPS limit if you need and change the FOV (I like my FOV around 90 to 110).

Post-Apocolyptic SteamPunk meets Redwall

After about 25 hours of gameplay and about 20% of the game completed, I feel I can give this game an honest review to combat all the undeserved negativity. This game is a beautiful open world action/adventure RPG that give you incredible freedom to play your character any way you want. Other than the first 1-1.5 hours of the tutorial, the game essentially lets you chart your own path. While the story is something that has been seen and done before, it is presented in a unique way in the form of the Biomutants that inhabit the world. Giving an old cliche a new charm. The combat system is very enjoyable and fluid. From melee to ranged to "magic" attacks all meshed together if you choose. Or you can focus on only 1 or 2. The choice is yours. It is presented by default in a sort of superhero style with words like BAM and SMACK and slow motion dodges and kill shots all rolled together. But these options can be turned off if you prefer an uninterrupted and more "serious" style. The sound and music are fantastic. The effects during fighting and the sounds of the environment really add to the feeling of the world. And the music helps you genuinely FEEL what is currently happening on screen. Many reviews complain about the narrator or that the game isn't voice acted. While true, the other mutants don't speak a known language, they are voice acted differently in their language of Gibberish. As for the narrator, the options menu allows you to chose the frequency with which he speaks. The gameplay itself is nothing revolutionary, hence the 4 stars. The quests are the typical type you would find an open world RPG style game. Fetch, kill, explore, find etc. They all make sense in the world and are quite charming when it comes to how the character explain Old World concepts like TVs, phones, washing machines and the like. Exploration is where the game shines. The world and it's different biomes are fun to roam and give a fresh unique take on tried and true RPG concepts.
