Description
BIOMUTANT® is an open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG, with a unique martial arts styled combat system allowing you to mix melee, shooting and mutant ability action.

A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided. Explore a world in turmoil and define its fate – will you be its saviour or lead it to an even darker destiny?

Key Features:
  • A NEW TAKE ON 3rd PERSON COMBAT
The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee and powers from your mutations. Learning new Wung-Fu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.

  • EVOLVE YOUR GAME-PLAY
You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to mutations like the Turtleform and Mucus Bubble, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.

  • NEXT LEVEL OF CRAFTING
You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash and crush weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton - the scrap-toy sidekick!

  • GEAR UP FOR ADVENTURE
You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.

  • SURVIVE IN A VIBRANT OPEN WORLD
You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.

  • AN UNUSUAL STORY WITH AN UNUSUAL END
Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided, in need of someone strong enough to unite them or bring them all down...
You are guided through the world by a Storyteller that narrates every step of your journey, but it’s your actions and choices that’ll decide how your story of survival ends.

A gem if it knew what it wanted to be

There is a lot to this game. It is filled with game mechanics from lots of fun games. It has the character customization and exploration of Elder Scrolls and combat trying to be Soulsy. Loadout customization and crafting for days. The world building is pretty thorough. But it all feels wasted due to the execution. There is little coherence between systems and no real idea about what the game wanted to be, which is a shame. This would have been the perfect game if the devs knew what they wanted. I don't know if it was due to my exploration before starting the main quest, or a glitch, but I feel like I suffered from a sequence break somewhere along the line. Everyone kept asking me about fighting the bad guy again and how terrified I must be. I had only seen him twice outside the tutorial. Once where I easily defeated him during a random encounter involving a wild mount, and when the one-legged guy told me where his hideout was. There was no leadup to being sent to his secret hideout. Just go and beat him. Crafting never once came into play. Neither did clothing customization. Even though both systems seemed to have a ton of depth. The economy exists, but I never needed to engage with it. I settled very quickly into a melee, auto rifle loadout using items I found in the world. Combat is decent. Parrying and dodging was rough around the edges, but passable. The narrator was ever present. He would talk about the day/night cycle as if it were important I know what time of day it was. If it was, I never discovered why. There were lines referencing what kind of person I was becoming and how my story was important which seemed to be triggered by something in the game world, but I couldn't figure out what. I know he could be turned off, but I realized that too late and didn't want to miss something important. The art style is perfect. Everything about the look, sounds, and aesthetics was perfect. I would absolutely love to see a cartoon set in this world.

Where to Start.Good

Where to start. A game that tries to do so much and blend too much. I think it works in certain areas. I haven't experienced any bugs so it's actually polished unlike AAA games when it's released with a bunch or patches. Game play is fun and open to many play styles from melee to ranged to spell casting you can do it all. Difficulty is beginner all the way very easy and simple for anyone to pick up. previous Experience not necessary in this one so it reaches everyone. Post apoc story is standard fair. but with the clans mechanic and the multiple vehicles it blends well. choices matter and your give a lot of chances to fix mistakes. you not penalized for making dark choices or being the bad guy nor forced to be a hero truly up to you. does well in being a Indy Bethesda game. crafting is fun and useful actually. Borderlands style random loot. Love the rewarding exploration part. Huge world with tons of explore and you actually want to explore and are not forced to plan the main story, side quest actually give you powerful loot and ability you'd miss if you just stayed on main quest so an actual reason to explore this game exceeds even Bethesda at this and is its best feature that other could learn from. To put it mildly I actually want to play again to try different paths and with awesome new game plus mechanic. if differs from other ng+ options as you can activate after the main quest but don't have to start form scratch but makes enemies harder but you keep you stuff and level. Control of the narrator is also great feature you not forced to have a bunch of narration or more if you prefer a lest lonely more social experience . find the mini games annoying you can turn them off with auto complete. Probably the most configurable game without mods I can think of.

Overall a good game, but a weak ending.

Overall it's a good game with fun cartoony game play, and seemed to be fairly well polished right out of the gate with no big issues that I noticed. Not a lot of depth to the mechanics which works well for the game, it doesn't take a lot of planning to have a fun build. I did enjoy the ease of the crafting system with no need to grind a bunch of crafting levels to make what you want. I did find the level of narration to be a bit much and didn't draw me in as much as it could have, but it was by no means bad just different from what I am used to. My only real complaint is the ending seemed a little weak and nonsensical to me, I won't go into details to avoid any spoilers. Conclusion: Good game, good for a nice couple hours of game play here and there, but not a play for 18hrs strait because I can't put it down game. It kind of reminded me of the Fable series with it's cartoonish graphics and combat (in a good way).

A beautiful journey throughout the game.

What's not to like! This game has cool combat, great in-depth character creation, offers a lush beautiful world to traverse through and the story is very good maybe not the high point but it's still good enough to keep me interested. Your in game choices really do affect your story. Great game for a small company that's jumping into AAA games. Highly recommended.

Great open world with a unique setting

I don't really get the point in many of the extremely negative press reviews. Biomutant delivers a very unique open world experience with many great ideas, a cool combat system and an awesome crafting system. I think this one is about expectations: You won't get the next Witcher or Zelda or a cinematic story explosion with tons of decisions to be made and 12 different endings, which should be clear, if you look at the size of the dev-team. But you will get a game that tries new things in a refreshing way and delivers an open world that is worth being explored with many possibilites to build your very own unique character using various skills and selfmade gear. So if you want exploration, a nice combat system, unique character building and a fresh setting, this one is for you.
