Description
BIOMUTANT® is an open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG, with a unique martial arts styled combat system allowing you to mix melee, shooting and mutant ability action.

A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided. Explore a world in turmoil and define its fate – will you be its saviour or lead it to an even darker destiny?

Key Features:
  • A NEW TAKE ON 3rd PERSON COMBAT
The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee and powers from your mutations. Learning new Wung-Fu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.

  • EVOLVE YOUR GAME-PLAY
You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to mutations like the Turtleform and Mucus Bubble, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.

  • NEXT LEVEL OF CRAFTING
You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash and crush weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton - the scrap-toy sidekick!

  • GEAR UP FOR ADVENTURE
You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.

  • SURVIVE IN A VIBRANT OPEN WORLD
You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.

  • AN UNUSUAL STORY WITH AN UNUSUAL END
Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided, in need of someone strong enough to unite them or bring them all down...
You are guided through the world by a Storyteller that narrates every step of your journey, but it’s your actions and choices that’ll decide how your story of survival ends.

Kids and I are loving this game so far!

This game delivers what it promised. It is a family-friendly, open-world, post-apocalyptic action RPG where you can play as a fully customizable kung-fu furry creature. The game rewards you in meaningful ways for exploring and does not punish you for taking a non-linear approach. The world is full of interesting characters. Quests are not cookie cutter like so many AAA titles. I LOVE the silly names for everything from gun parts to characters. This is a great break from big studio games as well as small indie efforts where the devs took big risks to make something unique and I think the result is really special and memorable capturing a magic few games are able to achieve. I have been gaming for over 30 years and this feels somewhere between old school console RPGs and modern open world action RPGs but without the profanity and gore. A few minor bugs have been reported by the community with crafting, resistances, and a couple quests which the devs have said they will fix in the next patch. This is typical of games at launch and I've found workarounds for the 2 bugs I've encountered after 20+ hours of gameplay. Yeah, it's weird but in an Alice in Wonderland / Through the Looking Glass kind of way. Yes, the pacing felt a little slow during the tutorial but it was perfect for my kids. Just click through the dialogue and prompts faster if you're the impatient type. I've read that some folks don't care for the narrator. Well, I find him charming as heck. Yes, the combat was not too difficult for me so I turned it up to hard. (My kids found it challenging on medium or easy.) The devs have also promised to address this in a future update. I hope they don't ruin the game trying to make everyone happy. What else... quality of life items. More than enough fast travel points. UI is intuitive. Crafting is awesome and can be done on the fly. Morality, allegiances, and choices matter and are dynamic. (NPCs react differently to you but you can also change.) So... enjoy!

Flawed but a lot Fun

Got about a dozen hours in so far and looking forward to more still. It's definitely not without it's issues, but the overall experience has been positive. Combat is a little weak, especially early on, but it gets better once you get more abilities and weapons. Really have to experiment to find a sweet spot, I love using a 2 Handed Sword and the Tribe Hook weapon. I don't use guns much as they are too strong no matter your build. Hoping the balance that in a patch. The world is beautiful, love exploring and finding new loot to make my mutant stronger/fashionable. Wish enemies would re-spawn, or for there to be more roaming enemies in the world as it can feel a little empty sometimes. Story is middle of the road so far, and the narrator isn't bad, but the way they have it work is weird. When you talk the NPC gibbers for awhile, then the narrator translate. Neat idea on paper, but bad in practice as it takes forever to get through the dialog, so I ended up turning him off until they change it (hopefully in a patch). All in all I am enjoying myself, but YMMV. If unsure wait for a sale on this one, but definitely worth a shot.

THQ did not help this game at all.

I played this game for a bit. It was actually an interesting combat system so I was enjoying that aspect. I didn't like the Psyionic ability wheel on PC. The default keybinding for it was very weird and it had an obvious controller design to it. The world looks nice and I had a blast in the character creator. The whole narrator thing is odd (I've never played a game with this kind of dialog before so it was an intriguing concept to me to try out for a first time). While everyone keeps reviewing this saying that everyone keeps saying random garbage, they aren't explaining the dialog properly. The random, quirky words used in various conversations are the robot-bug translating the conversation. As people know, sometimes it's hard to find the proper word/phrase to translate into another language so they wind up saying it the lost literal sense and it comes out sounding all, "What the heck does that even mean," to the other person you're translating to. Once I understood that it made a lot more sense and I actually really liked that aspect. It was a little touch that I don't think I've ever seen someone do in a game before so... lost in translation is front and center sometimes. Now the game is very simplistic and holds your hand WAY too much, even for a kids game. Oh my gosh, let me play the game. We're not talking training wheels level of handholding. We're talking being over 5 hours in the game and still being dripfed tutorials in case you couldn't figure out every single thing of every single aspect of every single system they have in the game. It's highly irritating and so not necessary.

This is one of those heartbreakers

It's a heartbreaker because the game does so many things right but is held down by so many sloppy errors. This should easily be a much better game, and it's disappointing to see the framework for something grander all over the place while you settle on what is basically a solid Zelda-like with stronger RPG elements and combat but a host of irritating design foibles like an overly preachy narrator and poor cutscene direction. On the bright side, this is a good candidate for a game that can improve greatly with mods.

a laid back open world played your way

biomutant is a colourful, open-world game set in a post-apocalypse setting. so, imagine if the fallout developers, the primordia developers and the inherit the earth developers all got together as one big crew and made a game. the result would probably be similar to this, but without some of the cruftiness that often enveloped those games. what i mean by this is that while the subject matter of biomutant is pretty heavy [a giant corporation dumped all sorts of waste on the planet and destroyed it], it never FEELS - moment-to-moment - like it wants to sink into that pit of ennui and drown there. rather, biomutant is fun - and sometimes funny - on it's terms and it wants YOU to have fun playing it. what do i mean by that? well, at it's heart, biomutant is a rpg with all sorts of other systems bolted on top. none of those systems is too onerous and they all hang together as a whole [not always a very fleshed out whole, but that's a different matter] where the sum of these little parts matters a great deal. so, there's a karma system that gives you abilities and a crafting system that lets you make silly [and powerful] weapons, but none of this gets in the way of what the game expects of you: it wants you to explore and to play your way. for me, that meant an all-magic build that fried people as soon as it saw them. there are, of course, problems with this approach, sadly, many of these systems aren't fleshed out very well, and the other creatures you meet, while interesting aren't ever built upon. this extends in other ways: the story is there, but sadly thread-bare. the quests seem interesting but are all fetch quests. while this all seems fairly bleak, i do want to say that biomutant has a FANTASTIC open world that's gorgeous, colourful and vast. there's a lot to see and explore, and that, really, is the crux of this game: explore it at your own pace, and in your own way. but relax and enjoy it while you are.
