Between the Stars

I enjoy it, new & refreshing gameplay, for my test a bit easy, but space is never easy, I may replay it again for sure!!!

Gameplay is great, atmosphere and backstory is great! Rolling dices like a tabletop RPG is a nice adition! But the prologue is awesome! Almost got me into tears! I honestly hope that the developers keep up with the storytelling on the same level because the seed is there! Now to the campaign!!!

Game's still in development as I write this, take it with a boulder of salt and hope things have improved: The dialog seems to have been written by a 12 y.o. It's quite distractingly bad. Someone figured out particles so there's particles everywhere, menus included. Quite a naive execution, uninspired concept and gameplay, simplistic gameplay and premise.

This is a great title to see in development. It's got the flair of Freelancer and other great dynamic space based games. Considering my long experience with space games; particularly Freelancer, the mouse and keyboard control in this one is excellent. I honestly have no issues with it at all. You can roll; you can dodge enemy weapons fire, you can outrun nukes... Every ship feels unique and if you haven't made it past the starting sectors and into the later; more sophisticated, ship models well then you're missing out. Customization is pretty decent. You can create your own ship captain with positive, negative and neutral traits. It is possible to lose and gain traits of all types throughout the missions, story and random events. I have found that common sense prevails and I never have an issue with a ton of negative traits. Ship customization is somewhat limited to color schemes only; but you can swap out weapons systems and augments. Things like shield generators and engine cores or even nuclear warhead launchers later on that can destroy a cruiser in one shot. There is crafting as well which requires you to research blueprints and scrap unneeded equipment. This all relies on your crewmembers and their skills which you can develop over the course of the game. This is another part of the gameplay that I like. You can lose crewmembers in scripted events or during ground combat; which is turn based and done with dice rolls, or just from random events on your ship or during story missions. It can be painful to see an engineer that you've been grooming get shot in the head; but it makes for great roleplay and storytelling. Graphics are great, ship designs are stellar and the overall combat and general space travel experience is incredibly detailed and exciting. Sound could use improvement, there's a background hiss and static that seems to get worse the longer you play. Music is dynamic and improving all the time. That's it, I'm out of characters! Buy!
