Excellent adventure game from the 90s

Even someone like me, who doesn't appreciate the adventure genre much, can like Beneath a Steel Sky. That is because underneath the trappings of a typical adventure game from the mid-90s lies a satisfyingly good story, a charming sense of humor (if a bit silly and forced at times), a catching and memorable soundtrack and a fascinating sci-fi/dystopian setting with a bit of horror mixed in. Granted, as I have said before, the game relies on all the tropes commonly found in adventure games from that era: the puzzles are not overly complicated but rely a bit too much on pixel-hunting, backtracking is a constant gameplay element, and there is even a particularly bad case of trial-and-error sequence. Regardless of these minor annoyances, BASS is a true hidden gem: a game that should be played not only by adventure games aficionados, but by anyone who loves dystopian thrillers and good science fiction. Also, it's completely free. And unlike most other free games available on the Internet, this one is actually worthy of your time.

Remarkable.

Okay, if you enjoy searching-for-your-past plots and Utopian settings where humanity is on the brink of total reformation, you're in for a very, very fun game. This game features a very simplistic gameplay with decent graphics and an excellent script to follow. The dialog is entertaining and fulfilling to read, the puzzles are difficult (you almost have to be psychic for some of them) and best of all, the game keeps you wanting to go on. Even the music has its place in the game that fits well for the mood at times. Overall, this game blends in some very interesting scifi aspects of plot devices to create a story that will keep surprising you left and right. I hope you enjoy(ed) it as much as I did.
