From original BATTLETECH/MechWarrior creator Jordan Weisman and the developers of the award-winning Shadowrun Returns series comes the next-generation of turn-based tactical 'Mech combat.
The year is 3025 and the galaxy is trapped in a cycle of perpetual war, fought by noble houses with enormous, mechanized combat vehicles called BattleMechs. Take command of your own mercenary outfit of 'Mechs and the MechWarriors that pilot them, struggling to stay afloat as you find yourself drawn into a brutal interstellar civil war. Upgrade your starfaring base of operations, negotiate mercenary contracts with feudal lords, repair and maintain your stable of aging BattleMechs, and execute devastating combat tactics to defeat your enemies on the battlefield.
COMMAND A SQUAD OF 'MECHS IN TURN-BASED COMBAT: Deploy over 30 BattleMechs in a wide variety of combinations. Use terrain, positioning, weapon selection and special abilities to outmaneuver and outplay your opponents.
MANAGE YOUR MERCENARY COMPANY: Recruit, customize, and develop unique MechWarriors. Improve and customize your dropship. As a Mercenary, travel a wide stretch of space, taking missions and managing your reputation with a variety of noble houses and local factions.
TAKE PART IN A DESPERATE CIVIL WAR: Immerse yourself in the story of a violently deposed ruler, waging a brutal war to take back her throne with the support of your ragtag mercenary company.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR 'MECHS: Use your MechLab to maintain and upgrade your units, replacing damaged weapon systems with battlefield salvage taken from fallen foes.
PVP MULTIPLAYER & SKIRMISH MODE: Customize a Lance of 'Mechs and MechWarriors to go head-to-head with your friends, compete against opponents online, or jump into single-player skirmish mode to test your strategies against the AI.
Please note:
3rd party Paradox account is needed to challenge other players in 1v1 multiplayer matches and to redeem unlock codes for Kickstarter Backer or Pre-Order DLC. Bonus decorations and emblems require online connection in order to be appliable.
OMG! Battletech!!!!
As someone who played the old table-top game from the early 90's, I almost fell out of my chair with excitement and teary-eyed nostalgia when I saw this bad-boy. While I haven't played any of the expansions/dlc, I had a blast with the standard game. No complaints as far as bugs or stability was concerned, though I do have a relatively new computer and purchased the game a couple years after release, thus getting a copy where any major issues would have been ironed-out.
My only regret is that the game doesn't let you command more than a lance of mechs. This was an issue with the table-top version (the complex rules and intense record-keeping making massive, large-scale mech battles cumbersome and unwieldy). At the time, I always thought a computer would lend itself well to the the aforementioned record-keeping process, so I was a bit surprised the current digital incarnation keeps engagements relatively small. Not sure if this was a technical issue or just a choice by the developers to keep rounds/scenarios from getting too long. maybe in a future release.
PS - If Harebrained Schemes could do some sort of Battlespace expansion or include aerospace fighters, my heart would just melt...
I dont Know rely, i was expecting a game like MechCommander just with turn base action.. The game feels very slow to play some turns notning is heppening and then all the action is over in 2 turns and you move for 3 to 4 tunrs and do nothing..
I expectet a fully voiced game but some lines are voiced and then i have to read stuff. That just throws me off. Ther is no base line.. The lines that are spoken add so much to the atmo and then your thrown off by a wall of text for 40€ i expectet more..
What a waste of great potential! The customization is great, the weapons work as they should (for the most part), the animations are nice, in some moments it just oozes battletech atmosphere, but than the flaws kick in. And they kick like a Steiner scout lance. For example as you are limited to one lance throughout the game, anything but your heaviest gear is a waste of a mech-slot. With only four mechs you would shoot yourself in the foot quite severly by using light mechs later on. Also, your Ship can house 12 fully build mechs, why not just let us use them? The difficulty rating is somewhat useless, a three "star" mission can be done in 10 minutes and consist of mostly mediums, but a two star mission throws heavies at you and kills halve your team. And speaking of team, you can build specialists, but only a handfull of combinations is really usefull in the late game, especially the flat damage reduction while not moving is basically a must have, while evasion looses it's appeal quickly in later levels due to the shear amount of enemy fire. Speaking of, some weapon combinations are just straight up better than others (medium lasers en mass). But the biggest problem is the story and your choices or to be more precise: your LACK of any. In the proloug lady arano talks about how she doesn't know what motivated you, how it might be greed or your good heart. But honestly, you have no choice whatsoever, you are the good guy. You can give some snazzy answers in the dialog, but you will STILL have to do the mission. Yes you can chose a lot of side missions and who to work for there, but in the main quest, no deviation whatsoever is allowed. That in itself would not be a problem in a linear game, but then why bring choice up at all? Why tease choice when there is none? And the game would no doubt profit from more choices to for example betray lady arano and follow her uncle instead, i can't imagine this beeing a big problem, most of the story is text-only dialog anyway.
What a.... game.
Reviewing V.1.8 after 2 weekends of playing.
Tutorial Mission is fine. 1 Pilot lost, 1 with two headshot wounds, 1 with one headshot wound.
Headshot wound....headshot wound...headshot wound.... Fun and engaging.
AI is broken. If you play a mission where you need the AI do go somewhere, or do something -
have a lot of saves! Ironman anyone?
Seriously: Escort convoy missions are broken. Really broken.
Your 'mechs have to stay close to the convoy - got it.
Vehicle rushes forward and complains.
'Mech stands next(!) to the vehicle and you get a complain. WTF!
Unfortunately does the AI not move after a complain. Even if you stand/move next to it.
No enemies left to destroy the vehicle? Well, that is a 'load save game'.
So far in 2 out of 4 escort missions.
Why it takes 15s for the AI to move a vehicle straight forward on an empty street? No idea.
Sorry, that is bad. Really bad.
Luckily only paid 13,- for it. Not going to purchase the DLC's. Nope.
Can't complain about loading times, or graphics, as my PC is rather old.
But I am complaining about these non-skippable jump ship -scenes. They go on and on and on.
Together with the loading scenes, playing some missions takes less time, compared to waiting. Bad.
Why the **** would you make those jump ship scenes non-skip? Really! Why? They are still going on
and on, and on...
You can read this review every time you go from one system to the next. Every time....
It's an in-game cut scene, and according to mod-pages, no chance to skip.
You could even write a review every time you travel.
Rec.Mods:
+Skip Intro for quicker game start; helped a lot on my old machine
Hopefully the Jump Ship scenes can be skipped in the future as well. Until then: Relax and wait...
