BATTLETECH - Season Pass

From original BATTLETECH/MechWarrior creator Jordan Weisman and the developers of the award-winning Shadowrun Returns series comes the next-generation of turn-based tactical 'Mech combat.

The year is 3025 and the galaxy is trapped in a cycle of perpetual war, fought by noble houses with enormous, mechanized combat vehicles called BattleMechs. Take command of your own mercenary outfit of 'Mechs and the MechWarriors that pilot them, struggling to stay afloat as you find yourself drawn into a brutal interstellar civil war. Upgrade your starfaring base of operations, negotiate mercenary contracts with feudal lords, repair and maintain your stable of aging BattleMechs, and execute devastating combat tactics to defeat your enemies on the battlefield.

  • COMMAND A SQUAD OF 'MECHS IN TURN-BASED COMBAT: Deploy over 30 BattleMechs in a wide variety of combinations. Use terrain, positioning, weapon selection and special abilities to outmaneuver and outplay your opponents.

  • MANAGE YOUR MERCENARY COMPANY: Recruit, customize, and develop unique MechWarriors. Improve and customize your dropship. As a Mercenary, travel a wide stretch of space, taking missions and managing your reputation with a variety of noble houses and local factions.

  • TAKE PART IN A DESPERATE CIVIL WAR: Immerse yourself in the story of a violently deposed ruler, waging a brutal war to take back her throne with the support of your ragtag mercenary company.

  • CUSTOMIZE YOUR 'MECHS: Use your MechLab to maintain and upgrade your units, replacing damaged weapon systems with battlefield salvage taken from fallen foes.

  • PVP MULTIPLAYER & SKIRMISH MODE: Customize a Lance of 'Mechs and MechWarriors to go head-to-head with your friends, compete against opponents online, or jump into single-player skirmish mode to test your strategies against the AI.

Please note:
3rd party Paradox account is needed to challenge other players in 1v1 multiplayer matches and to redeem unlock codes for Kickstarter Backer or Pre-Order DLC. Bonus decorations and emblems require online connection in order to be appliable.

Carbon Copy of MechWarrior 5 but a TBS

This is almost the exact same game as Mechwarrior 5, but in a turn based strategy. Even the jump ship cut scenes are almost the same. I have both and when I want a FPS I play Mechwarrior 5, when I want a TBS I play this title. If you have both switching between them is easy as its almost the same game. Mostly faithful from the table top version, but I haven't played table top Battletech in around 25ish years. Like Mechwarrior 5, it gets boring due to fixed mech layouts with each chassis, tonnage restrictions on missions, and a death clock on the career mode where the game will end after so many turns. Almost the same game with the same pros and cons. Bottem line, it's Battletech. If you know that, you know what you are getting into. Not full Battletech with all the content, but it's got plenty of replay. Unfortunately like Mechwarrior, its only a few layers deep. 4/5 stars.

Great if you are into battletech, but...

Like said, it's great if you are into battletech stuff. Absolutely nerdgasming, but if you are less into it, it's a tad slow, pacing is slow, combat could have more options for a modern startegy game etc etc. Story wise its a starnge mix of super holding your hand for basics, and then just "There is the rest of stuff, that you probably won't udnerstand unless you are in battletech" Then agian it has lovely little snippits of lore from outside the game, so when something in mentioned you can hover over and it opens up a little pop up that explains the term. Just a shame that that bit worls less good in the game mechanics section. All in all 4/5 if you are into battletech, probably closer to 3/5 if you are not.

Brings back great memories.

I remember in the 1980s when Fasa first produced table-top BattleTech. We got all of the technical readouts, read the novels, etc. Is this perfectly cannon? No. Is the map small? Yes. Is there some stuff that does not make great sense? Sure. Is it still an awesome game? H@LL YES!!! I loved the campaign. Lots of folks don't. More power to them. Even though in real old school table-top in the 3025-ish era you really could not (or were supposed to not be able to, in my recollection) travel to a specific world and have a chance of purchasing a Gauss Rifle or other piece of Star League Tech. Also, in tabletop there was no pluses (+) on weapons. That being said, I thought it was a nice touch. No complaints. It is just as unforgiving as tabletop as well. My main character was running a fully tricked out Highlander in a city and a Victor jumped into firing range. It scored a critical hit and put my main character in the med bay for a few months. Brutal! I loved it. Even with this setback I was still able to pull a victory out of the mission. I am sure when the main character came out of his medically induced coma, he was pleased. Crits are hell. The various environments are very well done. Jungle, Tundra, Lunar, Desert and my favorite, I think, the City-Scape. It really makes you feel like you are there. The City-Scape was wonderfully rendered. I remember going into this for the first time with a bunch of medium mechs (Griffins and Phoenix Hawks as I recall) and having no issue until a 70 ton Grasshopper (one of my favorites) showed up. What a great fight! We go a part of a GHR but had a TON of damage to repair. In conclusion all I have to say is two thumbs up+++.
