Battle Chasers: Nightwar

Very pretty, Torchlight II with Madureira characters. Monika got a breast reduction from the comics version, but I don't know if that was for ratings, physics or lack of screen space. I didn't initially know it was a port but the controls made it evident. "Mouse to move" is an option and initially off; combat skills can't be keybound. Also, and this is directly a design defect, combat skills need two clicks even when they really shouldn't: self? Click on the skill and then on you, because you don't know where you are unless someone pokes you. All heroes? Click on the skill and then on a hero, because otherwise you can't recall who's on your side. All enemies? Click on the skill and on an enemy, because you can't recall if that giant purple goober is a slime or just a puddle. I did like the skills system, and also that you can't directly assume a piece of equipment is better because it's a "higher" color. At one point the game ate my sword. While it is possible to save manually, manual save is complicated, it's not a listed option in the game menu. Not happy about my eaten sword. Will I ever go back and finish? Maybe, but I think I'm more likely to open up Torchlight. It never ate my swords.

Art work by Joe Mad is beautiful as always. Combat system is a traditional JRPG turn base with some degree of strategy. Strategy is important I'm this game, because enemies are strong and come in many flavors, which is good. Unfortunately that it's too required player to grind on order to beat a new dungeon. Characters' progressions aren't smooth and required its player to grind previous dungeon for both material and exp to get stronger. It felt tedious af.

I rarely wish for DLC or expansions, but at the end of this game I was left wanting more.

I tested this game on Xbox one, but it was getting more and more difficult to continue, monsters can defeat you sometimes with only one attack, I was surprised by the graphic design, but this game makes me finally abandond cause I don't want to waste my time in repeating to level up.

visually impressive, though the nature of the game causes it to wear out the novelty rather quickly. Very engaging and interesting the first 2 or so hours, after which you realize you have seen most of what the game offers gameplay wise. art is amazing though.
