Love it! But short.

I didn't expect anything when I bought this game in a sale. I saw it and thought that it looks nice. After a while playing the game, I got sucked right into its world. The first thing you are going to realize is that the art and narration is quite unique. The background, plattforms and characters are very brightly, diverse and colorful drawn. It might not be everyone taste, but I liked it. The best thing is actually the narrator and the OST. I could listen to his deep soothing voice telling stories of and around the Kid (the protagonist) for hours. The Kid himself is mute, everything he does or things which happens in the story is told or commented by the narrator. The story alone is unfortunately short and nothing really breathtaking. In my opinion a shame because the settings itself was interesting and there was a lot of potential. Luckily the story is accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack and the narration add its part too, so it makes it a little bit up. The gameplay is fun and motivating. There is a nice variation on weapons and upgrades so you may choose your playstyle. The control is on spot and it reminds me a little bit of Devil May Cry. If the game is not challenging enough for you, you may activate gods in the shrine which has the same function as the skulls in Halo or the different difficulties in Diablo. The activated gods strengthen the monsters, in exchange you get more exp and money. If you are completionist and you would like to unlock everything or if you just want to have blast then this game may last more than ten hours, thanks to a new game+ and some other game mods. Otherwise it will not take more than five or six hours. My conclusion/ tl;dr : 4/5 Yes it is short and the story is not going to knock you out your boots. But the gameplay is fun and the narration and the soundtrack are beautiful. Besides, you can double the length if you want to unlock all the stuff. If this still does not convince you, pick it up on a sale for a few bucks.

A great hidden gem.

The gameplay is great, but what really is the artwork and audio. Every level is a work of art, the music is fantastic, and the Narators writing and delivery is outstanding.

Play with gamepad :)

You need try a play that great game. Good atmosphere with a wonderful soundtrack. Very beautiful and interesting story. Use the keyboard + mouse or gamepad. Enjoy the game :)

A Masterpiece Of Entertainment

Once in a while a game will come along that not only manages to be great, but even pulls off being perfect. Bastion is easily this game. Perfect doesn't mean it does everything, at least not in my definition, but rather it does exactly what it sets out to do. In the game you assume the role as 'The Kid', the story itself narrated with pitch-perfect charm by Rucks. I won't touch the story, I wouldn't want to spoil a second of it, but I can safely say that like most everything else, it is compelling, elegant, and sublime. The only thing I will spoil are that along the way The Kid meets others, and they bring their own tales to the narrative that mange to enrich the story rather than make things feeling convoluted. The game play takes place in various areas where the stage actually spawns up around the player as you move. Combat is executed very well, the controls are tight and responsive. I used a game pad and found no issue moving, rolling, aiming, or deflecting. The game takes a small amount of getting used to, but once I had the hang of things I could readily see both my mistakes and areas where I could improve. In other words this is a game of skill, and practice really pays off. Not super hard by any stretch, but the game really gives as good as you play. If I lost I knew it was my fault, period. Visually this game is a stunner! The artists really poured a lot into bringing the world to life in vivid colors and stylized artwork that gives things a very hand painted look. I loved the monster designs; some of it was just odd but at the same time wondrous, even funny. Much of the artwork was just terrific to. The music in this game is beautiful! From twangy folk to rock beats, and Zia's dreamy ballad, this is one of the most unforgettable soundtracks I've ever heard, video game or otherwise. The sound effects were also suitably beefy, strange, punchy, and fantastical.

Great game

Great music, beautiful art style, pacing was good, controls were solid. I'd recommend this game to anyone.
