There are a few issues: For example it often crashes when I change the game resolution (but at next restart it actually has the new values, so all good!) but apart from that - which is totally fixable by a patch - it's a really cool game.
Traversing the land by "riding the sand" and (double)jumping is a joy and feels very dynamic. The fights feel powerful, as does raising crates or objects out of the sand. Many actions feel very impactful.
What I like the most is the world itself. As it should be in an open world, you can just look around, and you'll see many interesting locations in the distance which invite to be discovered. The architecture looks great, the rock formations make the desert look amazing and the level design is also vertical which makes it more fascinating than just a flat plane.
Also, I totally dig the design of all the cloth and armors in the game. Not just mine, but also the ones from the NPCs. Really nice "fashion" design, where other games often look generic and boring.
I never actually got to play the game because of EULA shenanigans. The games splash screen is immediately followed by a prompt to accept the EULA. EULA says I'm licensing the game and don't own my copy. EULA also says don't download if you disagree, despite EULA not being disclosed prior to install.
No thank you. I've opted out of better games because of EULA license language this title will not be missed.
Starting with the bad^Wweird. Few instances of the most insane un-logic I ever saw in a game. "Hi, it's me, your pal you saved from going to prison. This time I'm in a prison for a murder. That I know nothing about. And despite that (and being in prison), I have the murder weapon on me. If you were so kind to get rid of it... Bury it somewhere nearby, they'll never think of looking so close." All that while the guard is watching us from few meters away... *facepalm*
Sometimes the game is openly mocking you. "Oh, you unlocked your last environment skill, you can now open those red chests you were seeing from start of the game. IF you remember where they are." This is almost direct quote from your blue companion. *table flip*
Bit more serious issue, the game has a lot of movement freedom. So much, that sometimes when authors wanted to prevent you from going somewhere too early, they had to resort to underhanded things like invisible walls or slippery surfaces.
So, bad game? Not at all. Apart from the few mentioned warts, the story a bit weak but still good enough to keep you going. The main attraction are the fights with sand wraiths, and watching yourself improve over time. Timing parries correctly is critical to success. Not TOO hard by itself, but you also have to pay attention to the small fry that is summoned in regular intervals. The game also has some combo system, which I didn't bother to learn. Ground slam with dual hammers + whip for aerial combat got me from start through final boss. Good fun for about 50h of singleplayer completionist run. After the final boss, I even went back to collect the few missing achievements. That doesn't happen too often for me. Don't expect Witcher 3 or God of war story and you'll be good. I got my money's worth. 4.5 stars. Controller recommended.
From my understanding, this is pretty much the first game to come out where you have sand powers and cand glide in the sand and such. the combat is still a bit janky . The envronment looks fantastic and i like it alot
I found the game pretty good. There's a lot to be said about the game combat mechanics especially when fighting in the air but overall it was an enjoyable and fast pased experience.
Exploring the world was rewarding as you'd find little lore pieces or chests. The game is short and respects your time a luxury I view today.
My only main critism is with the story pacing. At the start it felt like it started too quickly, then after the tutorial area, the pace was great. But then the end happened; I thought you'd have a platforming experience to reach the great watcher and battle the final boss but sadly that never happened. It felt rushed at the end.
Still, if you enjoy old school stories with performant and engaging gameplay then grab this game.
Side note: I played solo on hardest (not nightmare as that needs a new game plus) so I can't say for coop and I finished the game and did everything.. sadly my achievements don't reflect that for some reason I still cannot comprehend (I saw the achievement pop up in game but never saw it in the galaxy app).
