Join the celebration! Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration takes you on an interactive journey through 50 years of video games.

At the heart of Atari 50 are the Interactive Timelines, which combine historical trivia, digital artifacts, over 60 minutes of new interviews, documentary footage, and playable games into one cohesive experience. When you encounter a game in the Timelines, you can immediately play it without losing your place.

The massive selection of over 100 games spans seven different platforms: Arcade, 2600, 5200, 7800, Atari 8-bit computers, and, for the first time ever on modern consoles, Atari Lynx and Jaguar! Play the classics like Tempest 2000, Asteroids, and Yars' Revenge, or dive into some deeper cuts.

Behind every game are the stories of Atari, what was happening at the company, and what went into the creation of the games and the hardware on which they ran, all told by the people who were there.

Also includes six new games:

  • Swordquest: AirWorld – Yes, you read that right: After nearly 40 years of waiting, the team at Digital Eclipse has created a new entry in the legendary Swordquest series, inspired by the design concepts of original Swordquest creator Tod Frye. Who will be the first to solve its mysteries – and finally complete the quest?
  • Haunted Houses – The original “survival horror” game for the Atari 2600 gets a modern 3D voxel-based sequel, featuring more houses, more spooky situations, and more urns.
  • VCTR-SCTR – This mashup celebration of the vector era of gaming combines the gameplay from Asteroids, Tempest, and other vector-based arcade classics into a single, continuous challenge.
  • Neo Breakout – An amazing and addictive two-player competition that combines the best features of Breakout and Pong, with a modern graphic style
  • Quadratank – The first new entry in the classic Tank series since 1978 combines features from the original games with four-player fun in team or free-for-all modes.
  • Yars’ Revenge Reimagined – The Atari 2600 masterpiece gets a whole new look. Swap between original and modern graphics at any time!

Please note that multiplayer is supported in local mode.

Everything I expected and more.

I finally bought this game since the new expansions are available on GOG. I'm really enjoying everything that is available in this collection. The history of the company is very well represented. They were able to dig up interviews and videos from the past and have included many new interviews. The information about the hardware and games is very accurate. Having so many old games available to play on my PC is welcome and very exciting are the new versions of games. I have already spent a few hours with this title and I'm sure to spend many more. I recommend this to any Atari or retro fan. I am able to run this on my GNU/Linux machine without trouble. Note: As of this review it appears as though This collection will only run if GOG galaxy is also installed.

History of Gaming

First of all this product is not a game it is a history lesson of the beginning of our hobby of gaming without Atari things would be a whole lot different. What we have here is a product of our past. This is not a game this is a museum of the begining of gaming and as such you cant review this product as just being a game. There is so much here videos of the pioneers of gaming. Their stories of how it all began. You have documents, pictures an amazing amount of information both interesting and informative and alone well worth getting if you are interested in gaming past. There is also the games there is over 100 here over many years and various Atari platforms a number of them are the same game but on differnet hardware. There are games that you will only play for a minute out of curiosity but there are a large number of timeless classics that are just as playable now as back then. There is also a number of games from Atari final console the Jaguar including Tempest 2000 which is one of the finest arcade type games you can play. I know people say the price is too high if it was just a compilation of some games i would agree but this is so much more than that you are getting an absolutly massive software package which is both fun and educational and in fact the cost of Tempest 2000 was more than this when it came out so i feel that what you get is a bargin. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to visit the past play games that laid down the foundations to what we play today and hear and read about this time. I only wish that they could have given us games from the Atari ST/STE and Falcon era i feel they missed a trick there. Other publishers please note what this package has done for the history of gaming and what your companies could do to keep the hostory of gaming alive.

Put this kinda effort into other IPs!!

This is an admittedly very impressive collection of games, with a very good front-end presentation. There isn't really much to complain about, even if it is $40. It's still a million steps above the absolute joke that the recharged collection was, and that was $60 (worth like $15 at the most). I don't understand why Atari can't spend the money on their other remasters like this, because this feels like there's actual passion behind this mass-preservation of gaming history. I've said it before and I'll say it till I'm dead: you should've given Nightdive more time to finish Blood: Fresh Supply. If it was anywhere close to being on par with this, it would've been the definitive way to play that game. You're not doing any big projects (aside from that stupid VCS console, give it up already), so put the resources into making good remasters/rereleases. There's no good reason not to.
